Square Enix made Xbox gamers’ dreams come true by finally bringing a port of Final Fantasy 14 to the console. Unfortunately, despite its massive number of players on Microsoft’s platform, the FF 14 Xbox port still faces numerous issues.

Xbox players have reported membership problems after the game’s free trial on the platform, and the new Dawntrail expansion introduced a host of new problems. Players have encountered multiple freezing issues and broken animations with the new expansion.

Square Enix has not only acknowledged the issues on Xbox but also took the game down for maintenance to address them. Despite a long maintenance period, Final Fantasy 14 on Xbox continues to experience problems.

In a new statement, Square Enix informed players that fixing all the problems found in Dawntrail on Xbox consoles will take "some time." While the developer believes the current version of the game is more stable than Dawntrail’s Xbox launch, players may still face issues when playing the new expansion.

“We have taken several measures that we anticipate will effectively address the memory fragmentation issue we previously identified," Square Enix told players. "Despite our ongoing investigation into the matter with the assistance of Microsoft, the issue persists in some of our development environments.”

The studio continued, “Our current progress involves rigorous testing of each potential cause of the issue and verifying the impact of each measure. However, it is highly likely that it will take time to fully uncover and address the issue, so we have applied a version of the process that we believe may be effective to the public servers. Therefore, while we have not yet received the final confirmation that the issue has been fully addressed, we will continue to monitor the situation in the public environment after the patch has been applied."

Depending on how long it takes to fix the Final Fantasy 14 Xbox port, players may receive additional free play time to experience the title without an active subscription. However, Square Enix has not confirmed whether it will reward players with free play time or how much they will receive for dealing with the issues.

Final Fantasy 14 is currently available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series. A new Final Fantasy 14 mobile port is also reportedly on the way via Tencent.
