Square Enix is releasing a massive Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth demo for PlayStation 5 users. Leaked prior to the upcoming Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth State of Play presentation, the new demo will give fans a lengthy chunk of the game to play through.

Following the recent State of Play that unveiled titles like the Until Dawn remake, Death Stranding 2 and the underwhelming Silent Hill: The Short Message, Sony revealed a brand new presentation just for Final Fantasy.

Spotted by Twitter user Wario64, a Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth demo announcement has been accidentally released early on the PlayStation Store. A short video on the storefront tells players to “play the demo” with the “demo available now”.

This means that the new demo will likely be released at the end of the Final Fantasy State of Play showcase later today. The new demo allows you to “step into the shoes of either Cloud or Sephiroth during the Nibelheim episode".

PlayStation’s Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth State of Play starts today at 3.30pm PT / 6.30pm ET / 11.30pm GMT. Players will be able to see brand new gameplay and story elements of the upcoming remake.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is a PlayStation 5 exclusive, at least for now. Just like the first entry, a PC port is expected to release sometime after the game’s PS5 launch. Additionally, the first game in the remake trilogy is reportedly making its Xbox debut sometime soon.

There has been some controversy regarding the new version of Final Fantasy 7. For example, fans turned against the voice actor for Cloud Strife for criticising Final Fantasy shippers.

Nevertheless, the new Final Fantasy game looks like yet another strong entry in the long-running JRPG series. While fans won’t be seeing a Final Fantasy 6 remake anytime soon, the ongoing 7 Remake trilogy still has a long life left. Just how long will it be until we see the last entry?

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth launches on PlayStation 5 on February 29, 2024.
