Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is coming to PlayStation 5 later this month, but fans were able to get a quick glimpse of the RPG thanks to a recent demo. While players did enjoy their time with the demo, the graphics left a bad taste as some fans feel they’re subpar for a current-gen game.

Various fans have gone to Reddit and Twitter (via GamesRadar) to comment on how the RPG’s visuals are a bit on the disappointing side. Certain textures look muddy, some of the assets look like they were meshed together, and even some of the models looked off.

To defend the game a bit, we’ve only seen a demo of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth in action thus far, so some of these issues could already be fixed by launch. Most fans might not even notice these flaws since it’s usually the diehards who will observe every little detail in the RPG.

It’s also worth noting that Final Fantasy VII Remake did have similar complaints when it first launched on the PS4. While the main characters looked great, some of the NPC models did feel a bit off, especially when compared to the game’s anime aesthetic. The original release of Remake was also criticized for having terrible-looking doors, though the Intergrade re-release fixed this.

While these visual inconsistencies are a bit disappointing, they don’t detract from the fact that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is going to be a huge game. Even with some visual downgrades, the game will still be home to a ton of mini-games, optional bosses, and a pretty enticing plot. A ton of gamers are curious about the fates of Aerith, Tifa, Cloud, and Zack, so Rebirth could answer all of our questions.
