Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is coming out next week and reviews for the sequel have been stellar, with many claiming it's one of the best games in the series. While the Final Fantasy games have consistently reviewed well, Rebirth is the highest-rated entry in two decades, making it a must-play for fans.

At the time of writing, Rebirth’s Metacritic score is an astonishing 93 out of 100 after 119 reviews, which is an impressive achievement. The only entry in this series to score higher than that is the PS1 classic Final Fantasy IX (via GamesRadar).

Based on the reviews released, it seems that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth trumps everything that Remake did and more, with many saying this is Game of the Year material. Most critics agree that the shift to an open-world-like structure and numerous side quests have made this second entry feel lively.

Our review for Rebirth agrees with a lot of the praise thus far, getting a 9 out of 10 for being an incredible achievement in gaming. We praise some of the fresh twists in the second installment and the combat, the first game’s best feature, is even better than before. Needless to say, anyone with a PS5 should pick this game up when it comes out next week.

Keep in mind that this is all coming from critics, so the fan reception should be interesting, to say the least. Even when Remake came out to stellar reviews back in 2020, some fans didn’t enjoy the more meta-narrative. Since there are already leaks out there, fans might want to be careful when Rebirth comes out next week and dominates the video game space.

Fans won’t have to wait too long to pick up Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, as the sequel comes out next week, on February 29 for PS5. Rebirth also has a shorter exclusive period with Sony this time, so we could see a PC release sooner rather than later.
