In Frostpunk 2, the need to supply and manage resources, harsh weather conditions, and maintain positive societal behavior is the same as its predecessors. However, the newer version introduces many new mechanics, improved graphics, and polished frameworks to make you push harder for a striving society.

While the fundamentals are similar, the newer challenges can be tricky to work around. This guide aims to change that with a list of Frostpunk 2 Beginner Tips that will help you quickly familiarize yourself with the game. Read on to learn more.

Frostbreak Regularly

Frostbreaking is one of the most crucial tools in the game, especially during the early stages. The option allows players to discover new resources that have been suppressed underneath the frost. Even when building new districts in a certain area, you will need to break down the snow surrounding the localities.

As the game advances, you’ll start to build more districts, provide more resources, and fulfill your people’s basic needs. Here, the impact of frostbreaking tends to reduce for many players, which can be detrimental. It is always better to break down the frost in advance to discover new resources or prepare land for future development.

Meeting the Heat Demand

Heat is useful for obvious reasons, but its unavailability can cause multiple problems among citizens—some of which can even potentially increase the death rate. Heat is produced by a generator, utilizing fuel in the process.

If you’re unsure whether you’re supplying enough heat to your people, you can place your cursor on the heat icon (located in the middle of your HUD) to check the demand. Strategic building can also contribute to heat production as your construction rate increases in the game.

For instance, Districts. When three tiles of one of your districts touch three tiles of an adjacent district, 20 Heat is produced. This isn’t much, but considering the number of Districts you’ll build throughout your journey, the addition is astounding. It can also save you from using additional fuel, allowing you to store it for any unprecedented disasters that may come along the way.

Build Districts Necessary For Your People

The game introduces the concept of Districts, each specializing in a particular department. While their presence can positively impact your workforce, there’s a downside: they utilize too many resources.

So, in the earlier stages of the game, investing in them only when necessary is recommended. Another advantage here is that the function of each District is pretty self-explanatory, so you can efficiently analyze what your citizens need more of at a particular instant and invest accordingly.

Expand Your Districts, Don’t Build New Ones

Creating Districts that compensate for your citizens’ basic needs is a great start—but there’s more work to do as the game progresses. This can easily create more demand and insufficient supply. In such cases, beginners tend to utilize their resources to build new Districts without exploring the option of expansion.

Expanding your current District opens the door to meeting your people’s demands without overusing resources. As a bonus, you will also be granted a building slot.

Replace Before It’s Too Late

The amount of resources you have (or produce) won’t always be static; it’s a constant fluctuation. In some cases, you’ll find that the resources produced by your Districts are starting to deplete.

The game gives you multiple indicators regarding the problem. While this may disrupt one of your Districts, the best workaround is to find a replacement source as soon as possible.

Many players do this, but they wait for their current District to diminish entirely before building a new source—this is the wrong strategy since it can disrupt your chain of supply and demand.

Plan Ahead With Weather Forecasts

Weather Forecasts help you predict the upcoming atmospheric issues in the region, allowing you to prepare beforehand. For instance, an upcoming cold season could mean stockpiling crucial resources such as fuel, which is essential to power the generators to produce heat.

To check the weather conditions in Frostpunk 2, notice the top-right side of your HUD. Here, you’ll be able to spot the temperature.

Avoid Lawlessness

Frostpunk 2 is designed to replicate many elements of real-life scenarios. One such example is that of Law. There may come a point where your overall resource count won’t be sufficient, leading to more demand but no supply. This will contribute to distress among your citizens, promoting ill behavior and giving rise to criminal activities.

If left unchecked, the increasing detriments to society can draw the people against you. To prevent this from happening, laws can be put in place. You can also use physical force (patrol officers) or revert to imprisonment.

While laws can be set, changed, or removed—you must first get a two-thirds majority in the council.

Explore Your Surroundings

Much like real life, exploring your surroundings opens you up to discovering new people, areas, resources, etc. But you don’t have to do it alone. Investing your capital and resources in a Logistics District helps enhance your exploration capabilities. This allows you to send teams with only one goal—exploration.
