Gears of War fans have been at an all-time high ever since E-Day was announced during the most recent Xbox Games Showcase. Fans are so pumped up for the game that many of them are now playing Gears of War: Ultimate Edition to get ready for Marcus and Dom’s return.

According to True Achievements, Ultimate Edition saw a 323% spike in players after the announcement of E-Day, showing how excited fans are for the new game. Since E-Day is expected to be a prequel, playing Ultimate Edition is probably the best way to get ready for the next installment.

Luckily, it’s not just previous games that saw an increase in players, as more recent titles have also been given some love. The underrated Gears 5 saw a 66% increase in players, while Gears 4 also saw an impressive 64% spike. Needless to say, every Xbox fan is on the Gears train right now.

For those not in the know, Gears of War: Ultimate Edition is an enhanced remaster of the first game on Xbox One, meaning it’s also playable on Xbox Series. While players can keep playing with their original Xbox 360 copy, there is a reason this remaster was dubbed as the “Ultimate” edition.

It’s not hyperbole to say that this is the best way to experience the beginning of this third-person shooter franchise. Not only does this version sport improved visuals, but gameplay changes from the third game were also implemented. This version of the game also includes the PC-only Act 5, which is ironic now since Ultimate Edition isn’t available on more popular platforms like Steam.

Gears of War: E-Day is exciting for a number of reasons, from the return of Marcus and Dom to leading roles to the focus on alien horror again. While the franchise doesn’t need nostalgia to be relevant again, the darker storytelling and more complex characters are missed. Fans will be able to witness the horror of E-Day when it comes out on Xbox Series and PC, though no release date has been revealed.
