Rockstar Games has confirmed the official release window for GTA 6, informing fans when they can expect to play the next open-world blockbuster on PS5 and Xbox Series.
Although Rockstar has not provided a specific GTA 6 release date, the second GTA 6 trailer's launch will likely narrow down the release period. This is the most precise timeframe confirmed so far.
In a recent financial call, Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar Games' parent company, announced that GTA 6 is scheduled for release in Fall 2025, meaning the game will launch in September, October, or November of that year.
This release period aligns with Rockstar Games’ past launches. GTA V was released in September 2013, and Red Dead Redemption 2 launched in October 2018. Given that GTA 6 is poised to be the biggest launch of 2025, releasing it near the holiday season makes sense.
Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick told investors that specific release date information will not be discussed in financial calls. Instead, Rockstar Games will reveal the official release date when the studio is ready.
“That announcement will come from Rockstar and be consistent with the way they are marketing the title,” Zelnick told investors.
Zelnick also addressed recent layoffs at Take-Two studios and across the games industry. With companies like Xbox laying off thousands and closing multiple beloved studios, industry investors have expressed concern.
“We feel like we’re in a very good place now. We’ve had three cost-reduction programs in recent memory: a $100 million program, which we exceeded as part of the Zynga integration in 2022, a $50 million program, which we exceeded, and now, most recently, a $165 million program of cost containment and actual cost reduction,” Zelnick explained.
“Our three-part strategy is to be the most creative, most efficient, and the most innovative company in the entertainment business. We don’t always get there, but we certainly do try. This puts us on very sound footing from an efficiency point of view.”
Zelnick’s words echo sentiments from other major studios. For example, Final Fantasy publisher Square Enix recently abandoned platform exclusivity and large quantity releases in favor of fewer high-quality releases across multiple platforms.
GTA 6 is scheduled to launch in Fall 2025 on Xbox Series and PS5. No PC version has been confirmed at the time of writing.
