Spartans never walk alone.
In January 2016, Adam Bartels (aka thecrzedspartan), a member of the Halo community, lost his two daughters, Trinity, 15, and Lena, 12, to an electrical fire at their family home in Wauzeka, Wisconsin, United States.
Following the tragedy, an online companion of Bartels, Spathik, shared the heart-breaking news via r/Halo in order to rally support for Adam and his family. The response from the Halo community has been overwhelming, as more than 1,000 Spartans united to consolidate Adam and contribute to the official GoFundMe page, which currently sits at $28,303.
As the Halo community came together for Adam in his time of need, Halo developer 343 Industries were also notified of the tragedy, and yesterday they announced their support via the Halo Waypoint.
In honour of Adam’s family and his daughters, Trinity and Lena, 343 have created the Spartans Never Walk Alone pack.
This pack contains the True Light emblem, which is named after the first initial of each of his daughters, and is the first animated emblem to come to Halo 5.
Josh Holmes, Studio Head of Internal Development for Halo 5, stated in the announcement; “As a father, I can only imagine the heartache and pain caused by this loss. In the days following the tragedy, it was inspiring to see the Halo community come together to support Adam and Rebecca in a variety of ways.”
Holmes also revealed that in addition to the True Light emblem, Halo 5 will include a special feature within their latest Arena map, Torque:
“As players look up and scan the stars above, the names Trinity and Lena will be visible in the night sky. These are but small gestures meant to honour Adam's daughters, ensuring that their memories are always close at hand within the universe he loves.”
From everyone at Gfinity, we extend our deepest condolences to Adam and his family.
