As I’m sure you’re aware, mainline Halo games have and will likely always be FPS titles but thanks to the modding community, you’re now able to play both Halo Combat Evolved Anniversary Edition and Halo 2 Anniversary Edition in third-person.

These mods come from Davide Di Fortunato and are completely compatible with these two games, bundled in the Master Chief Collection, when it comes to switching between the different graphics modes. This is pretty huge for those who want to get the full nostalgia trip of playing in third person on the classic blocky vistas and also great for you shiny polygon lovers.

They’ve freshly hit the market over on Nexusmods and you can get them downloaded for free by accessing them here and here. Then, place them in the relevant folders according to the instructions and you’ll be good to go.

While playing Halo in third-person might be absolute sacrilege for some, there’s definitely a market for it and something I’d be keen on trying out at least once. You do go into this mode when using the Minigun in stock versions of the game after all so it’s just that, but, like all the time…

If you do install this mod to get a little third-person action, don’t be alarmed when the game(s) boots up and you start in first. The mod only actually kicks in when you get a weapon in your hands so don’t do any uninstalling and reinstalling anything until you reach this point.

After, you’ll be able to experience the full campaign(s) in third-person glory, pushing back the world devouring Covenant once more.

If you found this new way to play these classic titles fun, there is in fact a third-person mod for most mainline Halo games after these. This means if you fancied a bit of Reach or the more newer Infinite and wanted to play from a different perspective, you can do so.
