Breakdown

  • Helldivers 2 Community Manager Spitz was fired from Arrowhead
  • Spitz says it was due to them encouraging fans to review-bomb and refund the game
  • The ex-Community Manager has no regrets for their actions

Helldivers 2 players no longer need to make a PSN account to play on Steam, but it seems that came with a casualty, as Arrowhead has now fired their Community Manager. This manager did encourage fans to get refunds and review-bomb the game after Sony’s PSN linking came to be, so they paid the price for freedom.

On the game’s Discord (via GamesRadar), Community Manager Spitz revealed that they are no longer working for Arrowhead in any capacity. Spitz said that their removal wasn’t voluntary, but they stand by their decision, as it led to the cancelation of Sony’s controversial decision.

"Generally it's not a good idea to tell people to refund and leave negative reviews when you're a community manager. TIL," Spitz said. "I appreciate all the support and I appreciate even more that everyone can play the game again without restrictions. I knew I was taking a risk with what I said about refunding and changing reviews. I stand by it. It was my job to represent the community, that's what I did."

When Sony announced that a PSN account was needed to continue playing Helldivers 2 on Steam, fans were outraged. Making this decision worse was that the implementation removed the game from over 170 countries, which still hasn’t been fixed as of this writing. Fans in other countries are still waiting for the shooter to return, showing just how disastrous this move really was.

It’s a shame that PlayStation decided to fire Spitz, especially since they represented the game’s community very well. Spitz could have easily caved in and let this decision happen, but they then decided to support what players were doing to rebel against this. It may have cost Spitz their job, but it seems that they have no regrets as they fought the good fight until the very end.

Helldivers 2 is available now on PlayStation 5 and PC. The game still isn’t available in some countries, but that should be getting fixed soon.
