In the early hours of a cold winter's morning, Malevelon Creek finally succumbed to the Automatons, and valiant Helldivers 2 fighters were forced to retreat. The blow is a hard one, as the Creek has been a long and tiring fight almost from the very release of the game. But democracy must always find a way, and all is not lost.
Malevelon Creek was important to the collective community as a planet located in the hostile Severin Sector, a deadly area due west of Super Earth overrun with evil robots trying to destroy democracy and freedom as we know it. In reality, the combat encounters there, while undeniably gruelling, are a lot of fun and take a lot of mettle and gritted teeth to get through, which is likely why it became one of the most well-known Helldivers 2 memes.
Helldivers have been fighting for the planet's liberation for quite some time, and freeing the Creek from the iron rule of the Automatons has become a collective mission for the global player base, with everyone, no matter their level, dropping in for a tour to do their bit for the cause. So when the planet fell in the early hours of this morning, we must remember our fallen brethren and regroup.
All is not lost, however, and although Malevelon Creek suffered a zero-percent liberation counter, valiant Helldivers managed to claw a little sliver of freedom back. The Creek still stands, and the memes will no doubt continue to prosper as much as our fight for democracy.
What's interesting, though, is that Malevelon Creek, despite being synonymous with the game at this point, is not the most important planet to fight on. It's not even the most important planet in its sector. Those dastardly Automatons took advantage of the mob mentality, and with everyone dropping into the Creek, the bots capitalised by winning Draupnir, which would've been an arguably easier defensive fight. Helldivers need to remember that there are other planets in the hostile sector, and they should be focusing on liberation missions that are far more likely to provide a positive outcome.
With Malevelon Creek lost, this is exactly what happened, and the community almost immediately managed to regain control of Mantes, another planet in the hostile area. This turned the tide on the overall fight, and at the time of writing, Malevelon Creek is currently liberated by a nail-biting 0.00370%. The fight rages on in the adjacent Xzar Sector, where Mort has already been completely liberated, and the battle continues on Poplix and Draupnir.
Now that freedom fighters in Helldivers 2 have realised that other planets could use their help, perhaps the collective has realised that Malevelon Creek may have to fall for the greater good. That prospect doesn't sound very democratic to us, however, so drop where you feel your services are needed most, fighters. We salute you and your collective efforts.
