Heroes of Hammerwatch 2: How Does Attunement Work?

As you dive deep into Heroes of Hammerwatch 2, every small edge matters—trinkets being no exception.

But what if you could boost these handy tools and get even more out of them? That's where attunement comes in.

If you're lost on how this system works and whether it's worth it, you're in good company. This guide breaks down what attunement does.

How Does Attunement Work?

To keep it simple, attunement boosts your trinkets by doubling what they do.

Imagine you’ve got a trinket that gives you a 20% experience boost.

Once you attune it, the boost gets a 40% increase. Similarly, attuning a trinket that already cuts damage by 15% will bump the reduction to 30%.

Attuning your trinkets strengthens them, giving you an edge in both fights and exploration.

But don't just attune every trinket you find—it's not cheap, so think about where you're putting those Skill Stars.

Stars are also limited, so make sure you're investing in the right trinkets.

If a trinket works for your build and you're using it the whole way, you might as well upgrade it.

Head to the Magic Anvil in the Town of The Outlook to attune your trinket.

Once there, you can use your Skill Stars to level up your trinkets. Each trinket needs a different star amount, so pick what works best.

However, keep in mind that attunement is character-specific. If you attune a trinket to one character, it won’t carry over to others.

Every character does their own trinket attuning, so if you’re playing with a group, you’ll have to manage it for everyone.

You can attune a bunch of trinkets, but there's a catch—you can only do it once for each one.

You can tweak several trinkets but don’t expect to stack upgrades on one.

This limit is in place to keep things fair, so you can’t just stack a trinket’s effects repeatedly.

Once a trinket is attuned, that's it. Not every trinket needs to be attuned. Only drop Skill Stars on the trinkets you actually use.

If your trinket is a one-off or you’ll probably be ditching it soon, it might not be worth tuning.

Stick with the items that boost your character’s skills or match your big-picture strategy.

Once your attunements are locked in, you're stuck with them since there’s no respec option.

That character gets a permanent upgrade when you invest Skill Stars in a trinket.

Switching your build in the middle of the game can be tricky, but it also pushes you to think ahead and plan before locking in your stars.

If you make a mistake or feel like a trinket no longer works with your strategy, you're locked into that attunement unless you reroll a new character or restart.

One thing that trips up some players is that the UI doesn't always clearly show you the stats of an attuned trinket in its unupgraded state.

When you hover over a trinket, you’ll see the upgraded stats instead of the base stats, which might slightly throw you off.

To get a side-by-side of the upgraded trinket and the original, just go to the Compare option in the menu.

This keeps you in the loop on the stat changes before deciding on the attunement.
