After a long period of silence, Hideo Kojima’s Xbox exclusive horror game OD has made its cinematic debut in an all-new trailer.
Revealed during The Game Awards 2023, Hideo Kojima’s new Xbox exclusive game stars It and Dungeons and Dragons actress Sophia Lillis. Assisted by acclaimed horror director Jordan Peele, the game has been teased as a “type of media no one has ever seen before”.
“It is a game, don’t get me wrong, but it’s also a movie and an all-new type of media,” director Hideo Kojima explained.
“I really like to always challenge new things, that’s my kind of thing. But this one, with the help of Xbox game studios and using their cloud gaming technology is really to make something immersive and something no one has seen before.”.
“The opportunity to collaborate with him has been incredible. In my films I’m always trying to maximise the immersion,” director Jordan Peele explained. “Hideo is the master of this and he does it on a whole other level. What he is doing here is incredibly immersive, absolutely terrifying and I’m here for it. What this man is building here is unlike any other game. It is going to be crazy.”
“Jordan is one of those geniuses,” Kojima followed up. “We wanted to collaborate on something. These two collaborations will be really awesome.”
Hideo Kojima also teased “other creative collaborations” working on the project, a team of “legends” he refers to as “The Avengers. With the creator working alongside horror mangaka Junji Ito for his canceled Silent Hill game, the terrifying horror artist could also be involved.
Hideo Kojima’s OD may be haunting, but it isn’t the only game the developer is working on. In fact, the developer is also working on Death Stranding 2, a follow-up to his unique PlayStation exclusive starring Norman Reedus.
Hideo Kojima’s OD doesn’t currently have a release date at the time of writing.
