Breakdown

  • Homelander finally gets a sneak peek trailer in Mortal Kombat 1
  • The short trailer is already filled with references from The Boys
  • It's safe to say that this is the same disgusting Homelander people love to hate

We finally have our first look at Homelander in Mortal Kombat 1 and he’s everything fans of The Boys wanted from this sadistic villain. Even if this is just a sneak peek, the trailer already has a good number of references to the show that fans are going to appreciate.

From his intro alone, where he sips milk in the most disgusting way possible, fans know that this is going to be an accurate depiction of this character. Although Anthony Starr doesn’t voice the character in MK1, the brief clip of him talking shows that we have a decent impersonator, at the very least.

Homelander’s heat vision is also shown as one of his finishers in Mortal Kombat 1, as he makes Liu Kang’s head explode in an incredibly gross way. Considering how prominent the character’s heat vision is throughout the show, we’re sure it’s also going to be in his move-set.

Last, but not least, is a tease of his Fatality and it is going to be brutal. While we don’t see too much of it, the fact that he punches Liu Kang to an airplane filled with people is going to bring back memories. Fans will remember how Homelander reacted to an airplane situation before and it’s not going to end well for anyone involved.

The references for guest characters in Mortal Kombat 1 have been superb thus far, with Omni-Man being a prime example of that. We get that absolutely shocking moment where he uses a character’s head to kill a bunch of innocent people on a train. It’s cool references like these that get fans excited for whoever is announced as a Mortal Kombat DLC character.

It will be interesting to see how Homelander fares in the game and if he’s high ranked from the get-go. DLC characters in fighting games can either be broken at launch or so busted that no one will want to use them.

Mortal Kombat 1 is available now on PS5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch, and PC. No release date was revealed for Homelander, but it should be coming soon.
