As a fighting game, Guilty Gear Strive supports changing default controls. From the attack buttons to movement presses, players can remap these controls as much as they want to. This knowledge may come in handy when playing with beginners and other people in general.

Where To Change Controls
In Guilty Gear Strive, players can change the controls without always going for the Options menus. Players have multiple ways to access the Button Settings even when they're about to play a match. Here are some methods you can use.
- In the main menu, choose the Settings option and the Button Settings for the controller and even in-game menus can be changed.
- During character select, hit your Slash button or whichever button the game instructs to remap the Buttons. This Button Settings shortcut button can be seen above your character's head.
- During any offline game mode, hit Pause and the Button Settings can be found in one of the options.
- While inside an online lobby, hit Pause and the Game Settings menus will have the Button Settings options too.
- Alternatively, the online Character Select screen can also have the Button Settings shortcut too.
What Controls Can Be Changed
While inside the Button Settings, players actually have free reign on every button they want to remap in the game. After remapping your buttons, make sure to remember which buttons and keys you've assigned in the game. If not, the Default button is also there to reset your controls back to normal.
Here's a list of all the remappable inputs in Guilty Gear Strive:
- Up
- Down
- Left
- Right
- Punch
- Kick
- Slash
- Heavy Slash
- Dust
- Taunt
- Dash shortcut
- Roman Cancel
- Psych Burst
- Play (Training Mode Recording)
- Record (Training Mode Recording)
- Reset Positions (Training Mode feature)
- Pause
As long as there are available buttons in your controller, arcade stick, keyboard, mixbox, or hitbox, players can go ahead and place any of these buttons as much as they like.
Why Change Controls?
At best, button changing in fighting games is done to find a button layout that allows players to execute their moves with ease and consistency. The right layout can't be determined by a design, but mostly on a player's feel and grasp of the layout.
Don't be afraid to mix and match layouts until a good feeling one is found. The default settings is designed to help beginners get a grip on the controls faster but can be changed in a way for more ease on the fingers.
