Unlike other regular enemies and side bosses you’ve faced, Guangmou tends to push you to the limits as the Destined One. Guangmou, the main boss in Black Myth: Wukong’s Chapter 1 (Bamboo Grove) uses poisonous and projectile attacks to deal you damage.
Patience, mobility, and strategy are your best friends here. Want to know how to use them effectively to mark your victory over the first main villain of the game? We’ve prepared a detailed article on How to Defeat Guangmou in Black Myth: Wukong below. Read on to learn more.
Tips for Fighting Guangmou
Before diving into how to fight Guangmou, it’s vital to first have a few resources:
- Antimiasma Powder: Allows you to cure Guangmou’s poisonous attacks.
- Spirit Skills: These provide beneficial passive abilities. Before the Guangmou fight, you’ll only be able to acquire the Wandering Wight or Baw-Li-Guhh-Lang.
- Armour: Equipping your first set of armor before the Guangmou fight will further solidify your chances of gaining a victory over him.
- Upgrading your Staff’s Spin: Guangmou periodically throws projectile attacks at you, so deflecting them with your Staff will come in handy.
Apart from the resources and upgrades, it’s essential to know about Guangmou’s offensive strategies. While they’re numerous—they’re telegraphed—that’s where you have a slight advantage over the final boss.
How to take on Guangmou
At the start of the fight, Guangmou always initiates his attacks with the Spiritual Onslaught, where he summons multiple orbs over his head and throws them towards you in a projectile motion.
You can either dodge these or use your staff to deflect them. We recommend the latter, as dodging depletes your character’s stamina in Black Myth: Wukong.
Then, he’ll start to use a combo of long-range attacks.
For instance, he’ll throw a giant orb covered with leaves at you. Again, you can dodge this easily. However, sprinting is better as it takes less stamina.
When Guangmou completes his attack, you have a short window to land a few combos. After doing so, back off immediately. This is due to his melee attack meant to throw you off your tracks, whose radius spreads considerably.
You can also use your Immobilize Spell to freeze the boss, gaining an extended window to deal more damage. Using Immobilize while a boss is about to perform his attack makes the spell last longer.
Once Guangmou’s Health Depletes
When Guangmou’s health bar reaches (or drops) 50%, he’ll use more complex offenses. For instance, his Snake Dance move. This is where he summons snakes that erupt from the ground.
There are three indicators before such an attack:
- His dance.
- His depleted health bar.
- His statements: “Boys! Keep him entertained.” or “Boys, greet our visitor.”
The snakes can cause trouble, especially while Guangmou’s chasing you. Since they’re one-hit, it’s better to first deal with them.
He also uses other moves. For instance, teleporting behind you to throw venomous vomit directly at you. You can counter this with a dodge. He also jumps in the air to elevate for a short interval at regular intervals. During this period, he rapidly throws a burst of orbs at you. This can be countered by dodging in his direction.
