In the dangerous and unpredictable world of Stalker 2, your survival depends on your ability to adapt and use every available tool effectively. One such tool is the Bolt, a deceptively simple item with massive utility. You can use Bolts to detect anomalies, temporarily disable them, or distract enemies to navigate The Zone’s treacherous terrain more easily.
Bolts are a valuable tool in Stalker 2, whether you’re avoiding invisible anomalies or creating tactical advantages in combat. For new players, mastering every tool can feel overwhelming, but don’t worry — this guide covers everything you need to know about Bolts and how to use them effectively.
What Are Bolts in Stalker 2?
In Stalker 2, Bolts are small metal tools you’ll encounter early in the game during the "A Tough Awakening" mission with Richter. They play a key role in detecting and avoiding deadly anomalies. These anomaly fields are usually invisible, but tossing a Bolt into one triggers a brief reaction, revealing its location and allowing you to navigate safely.
Luckily, you have a massive supply of Bolts, so you can use them as many as you need without worrying about the stock. Besides their use in anomaly detection, Bolts can also temporarily disable some specific anomaly types, like vortexes, acid puddles, or electric fields. This creates an opportunity to pass through and continue your journey safely.
How to Use Bolts in Stalker 2
Using Bolts is simple once you understand the mechanics. First, open the Radial Menu by pressing the Tab key (on the keyboard) or LB (on the controller), and select Bolts. Once equipped, Bolts will appear in your right hand, which means you can not use your weapon simultaneously.
As you approach an anomaly, your detector will start beeping, signaling an anomaly nearby. Throw a Bolt into the suspected area to temporarily reveal or disable the anomaly. To throw a Bolt, press the left mouse button for an overhand throw or the right mouse button for an underhand throw.
Hold the right mouse button to control the throwing distance, allowing for better accuracy on where the Bolt lands. This helps create a safe path through anomalies. However, be wary, as some anomalies are nearly invisible without a detector or a Bolt to reveal them.
In addition to anomaly detection, you can also use Bolts to create distractions. If you are trying to pass by some enemies or mutants, you can throw a Bolt next to them. It will divert their attention towards the sound, letting you pass or attack from behind. This strategy is most effective in cases where fighting is not viable or the enemy is far stronger.
