Dead by Daylight still has as loyal of a fanbase as ever, with the game still brining out new content and seeing success despite having been released back in 2016. On January 3rd, the games developers – Behaviour Interactive – shared a rather lengthy developer update, announcing a few changes that they have planned for the asymmetrical horror title.
It won't be long before we see Chapter 23 of Dead by Daylight go live, but there are a few changes that we'll be seeing before Ringu comes to the game. We've gone through the most important parts of the developer update (parts one and two) below.

Patch Optimisation Plans
Essentially, Dead by Daylight patches happen regularly. When you're ready to jump into a lobby with friends, waiting an additional amount of time for a patch you didn't prepare for isn't ideal. BHVR have been thinking about this, and are looking to compress their patches and reduce the time they take to install.
Matchmaking Optimisation Plans
Matchmaking and trying to make it both optimised, balanced, and fast has been one of BHVR's biggest tasks. We're a couple of months into using Skill Based Matchmaking now, but BHVR have further plans to improve this. This includes the likes of backfill improvements, disconnection handling, improving the impact of extended breaks from the game, and further general improvements.
Solo Survivor Experience Improvements
Since SBMM was introduced, BHVR have noticed the impact that is made between playing as a solo survivor or playing with a group. They've concluded that the difference in escape rates is up to 15% between the two, so as you may expect, they're looking to improve the game for solo survivors.
New Betas Tab
BHVR are bringing Dead by Daylight players a chance to play with experimental features without installing the PTB each time; this is by using the betas tab. The betas tab can be accessed via settings and players can choose whether they want to opt in or out of such features. The tab will also be available on console, and Bloodpoints will be awarded to those who opt in!
Wiggle Mechanic Changes
The first thing you'll find under the new Betas Tab is changes to the wiggling mechanic. Instead of wiggling ferociously using your keyboard or controller, players will now be required to complete skill checks instead while they're being carried to the hook.
Toggle Interactions
Another mechanic - Toggle Interactions - is being implemented by BHVR to make the game more accessible for players and prevent us from holding buttons for what feels like forever. This can be enabled in the games settings, and instead of holding a button for a prolonged amount of time, players will now be able to toggle on/off various actions.
Leatherface Masks
To put the issue regarding The Cannibal's masks simply, one of the masks was being used in a hateful manner by players, so has since been removed by BHVR. This is what the team had to say regarding the matter:
Grade Rewards Revisited
Matchmaking and the various changes and trials it has faced has been a continuous discussion for the community. Once again, BHVR have realised that the rewards for their grade system haven't been as fitting as they'd hoped, and are now increasing the rewards as of January 13th, with new rewards going out on February 13th.
Add-On Updates
After updating various add-ons in the previous mid-chapter update, BHVR have been delighted to see positive feedback regarding the changes made, and have thus decided to make more changes.
Changes have specifically been made to Killer add-ons, impacting The Blight, The Cannibal, The Pig, The Clown, The Twins, The Oni, The Huntress, and The Nemesis.
Perk Updates
As with every developer update, there's going to be a few alterations to player perks again. The changes will affect the following perks, and you can explore how by checking out part two of the developer update.
- Boil Over
- Distortion
- Remember Me
