With Mario Kart 8 Deluxe becoming the best-selling Mario Kart game of all time last year, rumours about a potential Mario Kart 9 have been long reported, and one analyst believes we could finally see it this year.
As spotted by VGC, GamesIndustry.biz published a predictions article featuring a handful of game analysts, who shared their thoughts on what could happen in the gaming industry this year. This includes Kantan Games analyst Dr. Serkan Toto, who spoke about Mario Kart 9 being in "active development" and could be revealed this 2022.

Mario Kart 9 Could Be Revealed This Year, Says Game Analyst
Part of Dr. Toto's statement reads as:
"I am aware Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is still selling very well on the Nintendo Switch, but Mario Kart 9 is in active development (and comes with a new twist) and Nintendo could tease it this year."
Last year, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe made history after reaching 38.74 million units sold, breaking Mario Kart Wii's previous record of 37.38 million units sold. Considering Deluxe released nearly five years ago - to say nothing of the Wii U version - it wouldn't be surprising if a sequel's on its way.
