Apex Legends is developed by Respawn Entertainment and published by Electronic Arts. The hero shooter was a revolutionary introduction to the massively growing battle-royale genre at the time of its release.
While many people in the community were slowly growing tired of the battle royale genre's monotony, Apex Legends presented a fresh approach to the played-out category of games. With games like PUBG and Fortnite dominating the Battle-Royale fanbase, many fans had pegged Apex Legends to eventually fall off with time. However, the game is still continuously growing in popularity. Therefore, it's safe to say that the Apex Legends community is now stronger than ever.
In this guide, we're going to break down the initial release of Apex Legends and any major in-game releases after that.
When Was Apex Legends Released?
The initial release of Apex Legends came on February 4th, 2019. It was released for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Then, the game saw its first release on the Nintendo Switch on March 9, 2021. Has Apex Legends Always Been a Battle Royale?
Yes, Apex Legends has always been a Battle Royale. On its initial release, the only two modes available in the game were Battle Royale (trios only) and the training mode. As the game gained popularity, Respawn started to add new modes for you to try. Eventually, Apex evolved into its current iteration. This includes a Battle Royale Mode (trios or duos), Ranked for both Arenas and Battle Royale. and Arenas Mode (3v3). Of course, there is still a training mode where you can hone your skills before diving into battle.
Limited-Time Modes
Small events and limited-time modes have become a staple of every Apex season. The most recent addition is Control Mode. This is the first time two teams of nine players can go head to head in the game. The first team to get the most points will be dubbed the winners. Another popular limited-time mode that has become an annual event is the Halloween Event. They started as the eerie Fight or Fright event back in 2019 and ever since then, every Halloween, you are treated to a spooktacular version of Apex Legends.
