League of Legends: Sett, the Boss’s Release Date

A new year, a fresh new decade for League of Legends, and we’re already champing at the bit for the new champion too. Sett, the Boss, was already teased in-game thanks to players getting a calling card if they achieved particularly valorous deeds on Summoner’s Rift (usually involving bashing a lot of skulls together for a good KDA).

That leaves an obvious question: when is he actually going to come out himself?

Public Beta

Sett was added to League of Legend’s Public Beta Environment server early last month, on December 11.

That patch, officially for the 10.1 PBE Cycle, meant that he wasn’t going to be officially on the stage for the remainder of 2019 – though the closeness between his announcement and Aphelios’s release warranted comparisons to the game’s old champion release cadence all the way back in 2012.

PBE cycles don’t usually last for an entire month before their contents are pushed to live servers. The timing for Patch 10.1, however, was obviously going to be a break from the usual, as its testing phase came at the extreme end of the year.

In fact, the version number says it all, confirming that all of this content was to be the first wave of material released for 2020.

Even programmers take holidays off, after all.

Release Schedule

Thanks to Riot Support’s prudence, we actually have a very solid idea of when patches are supposed to come out for all of 2020.

Their article has it laid out for all the way to December 9, 2020, when Patch 10.25 will come out.

That’s no guarantee that all content in a PBE cycle makes it to the next patch (obviously, anything too buggy should get booted down the road for later), but it gives us very precise ideas of when to expect them to come once ready.

Day of Release

In Sett’s case, as he’s planned for Patch 10.1, the earliest you can expect him to come on January 8, 2020 – a Wednesday. If anything between then and now proves unfavorable for his release, he may get pushed back as far as January 23rd (though this currently seems unlikely).
