[Original Story] - The Dead By Daylight Lunar New Year event will return in 2022 and we shouldn't have to wait too long before the celebrations begin. The next Chinese New Year is called The Year of the Tiger and as is tradition, we should see some tiger-themed cosmetics available for our killers, but beyond this, most of the events will likely be similar to previous years. With this in mind, here's everything we know so far about the Dead By Daylight Lunar New Year event in 2022.

We're now just over 24 hours away from the launch of Dead By Daylight's Lunar Event for 2022. As players will know, the release date has been set for January 25 and its start time should be 08:00 PT, 11:00 ET, and 16:00 GMT. Though BeHaviour Interactive hasn't confirmed this start time, it's typically when we see new events or seasons go live in the game. Hopefully, we'll get a few more details about the event later today ahead of launch, so stay tuned for updates.
20 January 2022 -
Dead by Daylight has officially confirmed the upcoming Lunar New Year Event. In 2022 the event has been called Dead By Daylight Lurking Stripes. It starts on January 25 and ends on February 8. You can see a short teaser trailer for the event on the tweet just below, but for the time being the developer has not yet confirmed any details on the event itself, such as rewards, new skins or mechanics. No doubt we'll learn more in the coming days.
Dead By Daylight Lunar New Year 2022 Event Release Date
At the time of writing Behaviour Interactive has not confirmed an official release date for the game's Lunar New Year event in 2022. It's also somewhat tricky to accurately predict when it might start, because it will traditionally begin and end at wildly different times each year. This is because the Lunar New Year event is tied to the real-life Chinese New Year, which itself changes date every year. As you can see below from the dates when the event has started and ended in previous years, it's hard to give any firm start dates:
Year | Name | Started | Ended |
---|---|---|---|
2018 - Year of the Dog | Howling Grounds | February 15 | March 1 |
2019 - Year of the Pig | Moonrise | January 30 | February 13 |
2020 - Year of the Rat | Scarlet Swarm | January 21 | February 4 |
2021 - Year of the Ox | Gilded Stampede | February 11 | February 25 (extended to March 4) |
In 2022 the Chinese New Year starts on 1 February 2022. Based on what we know, the Dead By Daylight Lunar New Year event usually goes live a couple of days before the Chinese New Year. With this in mind, we think it's possible that the next Dead By Daylight Lunar New Year Event will begin on January 27, 2022. For the time being though this is just speculation, and we'll have to wait on an official announcement from the developer closer to the time for confirmation.
What Modes Are Available?
Dead By Daylight will traditionally not have any special Lunar Event modes in play, but there is a series of features we see enabled.
For instance, we normally see a special Lunar New Year-themed Lobby as well as themed Generators and hooks. In addition, the game has traditionally renabled the Chinese Firecracker Item and the Red Envelope Offering (details of both can be found further down). 2021 also added the Festive Toolbox, a brand-new item for Survivors. Keep reading for a full breakdown of how each of these items work, courtesy of Dead by Daylight's fandom wiki.
Firecracker: A row of small explosive devices wrapped in heavy paper casing. Detonates into loud bangs and intense light flashes. Can be used as a distraction, as a blinding device or to celebrate.
Festive Toolbox: A Toolbox packed to the brim with fireworks, it is prepared to celebrate all your life's successes... and failures.
- Increased Generator Repair speed of +50 %.
- Succeeding a Great Skill Check detonates a small cluster of firecrackers.
- Missing a Skill Check detonates fireworks.
- Unlocks the Sabotage action.
- A Capacity of 32 Charges.
Red Envelope: A special gift for the Lunar New Year celebration.
- As a Killer, hook a Survivor on a Lunar Celebration Hook to earn bonus Bloodpoints.
- As a Survivor, whenever a Lunar Celebration Generator is repaired, you earn bonus Bloodpoints.
- Using Red Envelope increases the amount of Bloodpoints earned for these interactions.
Dead By Daylight Lunar New Year Rewards
One of the event’s staple features is the weekly challenges. Each week, you’re tasked with winning a set number of matches and earn a unique cosmetic item as a reward. Typically, the requirements ramp up with the value of the reward, e.g. you’ll win three matches for an icon, but nine matches for a Legendary Skin. We suspect we'll see even more challenges released in 2022.
Dead By Daylight Lunar New Year Free Bloodpoints
In addition to the rewards on offer, Dead By Daylight also gave away a lot of free Bloodpoints to fans in 2021, simply for logging in. We would imagine that Behaviour Interactive will once again give fans plenty of free Bloodpoints to encourage them to log in and play the game in 2022.
In 2021, the game gave away 50,000 Bloodpoints per day, which over the course of the whole event amounted to a whopping 1,050,000 Bloodpoints. Whilst the 2022 event might not be identical, we suspect it will be very similar.
New Dead By Daylight Lunar New Year Collection
As with most seasonal events we normally see reductions on the game's existing collections. For example, last year the Moonrise and Scarlet Swarm collections were available at up to 30% off. We suspect we'll see similar discounts in 2022, but with the Gilded Stampede collection also available at a discounted rate.
For those curious how much you'll look to pay, here's a rough guide based on the 2021 sale:
- Feng Min’s Spring Festival Outfit: 840 AC (was 1200 AC)
- Ace Visconti’s Seasoned Gambler Outfit: 840 AC (was 1200 AC)
- The Huntress’ Brave Beast Outfit: 840 AC (was 1200 AC)
- Jeff Johansen’s New Year Showgoer Outfit: 960 AC (was 1200 AC)
- The Legion's New Year Shoplifter Outfit: 960 AC (was 1200 AC)
It's possible we could also see some discounts on the base game and select DLCs.
