Elden Ring is FromSoftware and Bandai Namco's latest release, utilising the world-building of Hidetaka Miyazaki alongside the writing of award-winning novelist, George R.R. Martin. Fans of the Soulsborne games are understandably excited, despite Elden Ring not being a 'sequel' to the games, but borrowing from the formula instead.

Much like the Souls games, Elden Ring possesses a wide array of bosses and enemies for you to face. Of the many you encounter, the elderly-looking boss blocking your entrance to Stormveil Castle is known as Margit the Fell Omen.

You've cleared out multiple enemies before arriving here, but Margit the Fell Omen is still going to prove to be a challenge regardless. In this guide, we explain how to beat Margit the Fell Omen in Elden Ring, as well as how to get a useful item, Margit's Shackle.

How to Get Margit's Shackle in Elden Ring

Before facing the boss, you might want to make sure you've competed the Murkwater Cave dungeon first. This dungeon can be found north of Adheel Lake, to the western side of a nearby riverbed. Soon enough, you'll encounter a dungeon boss, Patches, but you can also choose to let him live. If you do, he will then become an available merchant who has Margit's Shackle as an item for you to buy. Buy the item and keep it ready for later; it can help a little when it comes to facing Margit the Fell Omen.

How to Beat Margit the Fell Omen in Elden Ring

When you encounter Margit the Fell Omen at the gate of Stormveil Castle, the recommended weapon level is +3 (normal) or +1 (special), and he has a HP of 4174. With a rather small, narrow arena to hand, where dodging attacks can run the risk of falling to your death, this fight may be tricky. It's important that you remain aware of your surroundings and perfect the timing of your dodges to counter Margit's leaps and lunges, without going over the arena's edge.

If you're considering trying to back Margit into a corner, we advise against it. Margit has multiple 360-degree sweeping attacks, and you don't want to run the risk of falling from the arena. Keep the fight at a mid-range minimum, so you can dodge Margit's attacks, and go for the attack whenever Margit slows.

When it comes to what you should do beyond dodging and being aware, there are a few things to note. Margit is rather vulnerable to Bleed. Bleed can be inflicted with specific weapons such as the Spiked Club, or Bone Darts and Throwing Daggers can be used at a long range - but only when Margit has his back to you.

How else can you protect yourself against Margit's relentless attacking? This is where the aforementioned item, Margit's Shackle, comes in handy. Early-game shields are easily penetrable due to Margit's Holy-elemental damage, however, Margit's Shackle can be easily equipped to your quick-menu and then reused during this battle. The item will trap Margit briefly, stunning him and preventing him from moving or attacking for around three seconds. Margit's Shackle can only be used twice in this battle, and only during phase one, but it does offer a unique temporary advantage against him.

For more help with the battle, players can use the Summon Sign just outside of the boss arena to summon an ally for help. Aside from that, good luck! For more on Elden Ring, check out our comprehensive guide to the classes you can pick from, and how to get the Spectral Steed Whistle.
