In Marvel Rivals, Hulk is a formidable Vanguard hero known for his aggressive playstyle. He excels at breaking through enemy defenses and creating opportunities for his team.
With unmatched raw strength, incredible durability, and devastating melee attacks, Hulk is the quintessential frontline fighter—capable of withstanding heavy damage while delivering crushing blows to his foes.
What sets Hulk apart from other heroes is that he can change forms from Bruce Banner and Hero Hulk to Monster Hulk, depending on the situation.
Hulk becomes the most demanding character with three different forms, but learning his playstyle beforehand can help. Keep reading this guide to learn all of his abilities.
Hulk’s Abilities in Marvel Rivals
Hulk’s gameplay is all about timing, positioning, and knowing when to use his different forms. Below is the breakdown of all of his abilities in Marvel Rivals.
Bruce Banner Abilities
- Gamma Ray Gun: Bruce Banner’s basic attack fires a gamma ray projectile.
- Gamma Grenade: Bruce throws a Gamma Grenade that causes area of effect (AoE) damage and launches opponents into the air.
- Puny Banner: When the Gamma Energy meter is full, Bruce transforms into Hero Hulk.
- Gamma Boost: This passive team-up ability enhances Doctor Strange and Iron Man by charging them with gamma radiation and granting them special empowered effects when they use their abilities.
Hero Hulk Abilities
- Heavy Blow: A melee punch that does damage against nearby enemies.
- Indestructible Guard: Hulk generates a Gamma Shield for himself and nearby allies, absorbs incoming damage, and converts it into energy for his devastating HULK SMASH!
- Radioactive Lockdown: Hulk releases gamma energy that immobilizes an enemy. The effect can be removed by hitting enemies with Heavy Blow or Gamma Burs.
- Incredible Leap: Hero Hulk charges up a huge leap that enables him to close gaps very quickly or to snatch away airborne foes.
- Gamma Burst: A short-range burst of gamma energy that damages enemies in front of Hulk.
- HULK SMASH!: Hero Hulk transforms into Monster Hulk and releases stored gamma energy for a limited time.
Monster Hulk Abilities
- Heavy Blow: Similar to Hero Hulk’s attack, but with increased damage.
- Radioactive Lockdown: This ability remains the same, immobilizing enemies to control the battlefield and set up high-damage follow-ups.
- Incredible Leap: Monster Hulk can still perform this charged leap with increased power and impact.
- World Ender: Monster Hulk’s ultimate move, World Ender, grabs an enemy and smashes them repeatedly into the ground, dealing massive damage.
How to Play Hulk in Marvel Rivals
Hulk is a frontline Vanguard and can be used to begin fights, disrupt the enemy’s defenses, and absorb damage for his team. The first thing is to get within the range of your enemies. Start with Hero Hulk and use his Incredible Leap ability to close the distance or surprise enemies.
When you close the gap, use Radioactive Lockdown to immobilize your targets. Then, follow up with Heavy Blow and Gamma Burst to finish them. Activate Indestructible Guard to protect yourself and your allies from incoming fire. When the moment is right, unleash a devastating HULK SMASH! to retaliate and deal massive damage.
You will get a limited window when you are in Monster Hulk form. In this form, focus on World Ender to eliminate priority targets, mainly squishy heroes or supporting characters. Be aware of your surroundings when playing as Bruce Banner because it is essential to survive in this form to activate Hulk’s true potential.
Team Pairing with Hulk
Hulk stands out with his aggressive playstyle, so heroes who complement his frontline gameplay fit perfectly. You can pair him with Vanguard Venom for a dominant play style. The Duelists, Spider-Man, and Star-Lord are well suited to Hulk because they can attack from the back line and take advantage of the chaos he creates.
Strategists like Rocket Raccoon, Luna Snow, or Mantis are ideal because they provide ranged support and healing from a safe distance. Doctor Strange and Iron Man are great partners due to Hulk’s team-up passives that empower their abilities. This combination allows Hulk to thrive while maintaining the team’s sustainability and offensive pressure.
How to Counter Hulk
To counter Hulk, you have to exploit his dependence on melee combat or when he is in Bruce Banner form. Ranged characters such as Storm, Iron Man, and Scarlet Witch can attack him while staying out of his reach. Winter Soldier is also effective against Hulk because he can pull him long enough for his team to deal sufficient damage.
The Punisher, whose Deliverance shotgun can shred his health pool quickly, is the most effective counter to Hulk. When paired with Rocket Raccoon and his Ammo Overload ability, The Punisher can maintain constant pressure and prevent Hulk from reaching his full potential.
During the fight, focus on attacking Hulk while he is still in Bruce Banner form and don't give him a chance to transform. Additionally, aggressive pressure and keeping him out of the zone can exhaust Hulk and reduce his impact on the battlefield.
