- Marvel Rivals developer NetEase apologized for seemingly deceiving content creators and journalists
- Several content creators have said the beta contract restricts them from criticizing the game
- NetEase are now fixing the contract so it's more fair to everyone
Marvel Rivals is a promising-looking shooter, but there’s been some negativity surrounding the game after NetEase seemingly tried to deceive content creators and journalists. The company has since apologized for this, promising changes will be made and they won’t be deceiving anyone in the future.
NetEase issued a statement to PCGamesN, apologizing to content creators for “misleading terms” that made it seem like they weren’t allowed to criticize the game. Valid criticism is an important part of all media and attempting to silence content creators and journalists by giving them beta access is a bad look.
It was streamer Brandon “Seagull” Larned who brought attention to this piece of Marvel Rivals controversy, expressing disappointment with the contract. Gamers were furious when they saw this, as nobody wants biased looks at these shooters, especially while they’re still in their beta phase.
Representatives from NetEase have since said that this was an early draft and they will be uploading a more updated contract for these creators soon. Apparently, the company is aware that they have to work with these people to make this game better, with it being a multiplayer shooter.
“The contract is a draft version aiming for long-term cooperation with the creators who are interested in Marvel Rivals,” NetEase says. “The development team hopes to have more meaningful and consistent feedback, suggestions, and criticisms through more in-depth cooperation.”
Fans are incredibly excited for Marvel Rivals, so that was a major setback that caught many excited players off guard. Now that this has seemingly been sorted out, we do hope that the upcoming reviews for the shooter end up being honest. After all, many are viewing this game as their replacement for Overwatch, especially with all of these superheroes in the roster.
At the time of writing, there is no proper release date for Marvel Rivals, so fans will have to wait a bit longer. No platforms for the shooter have been listed yet, so it seems that the game will be a PC exclusive until further notice.
