Even before the Marvel Rivals launch, there were discussions and tier lists on which characters were the easiest to play, and one hero that managed to get good reviews constantly was Guardian of the Galaxy's Star-Lord.
While Star-Lord's kit is solid as a mobile duelist, some players have realized that his dodge can avoid ultimates altogether.
How Star-Lord Can Dodge Ultimates
The key to Star-Lord dodging some ultimates is timing. Players have to time their dodge perfectly so that the ultimate avoids Star-Lord so he doesn’t take any damage. @MetaTrixx on Youtube has developed this handy guide for Star-Lord players and how he can dodge specific attacks from certain characters.
So far, here are the characters that have ultimates that Star-Lord can dodge.
- Scarlet Witch – Press right-click the moment that Scarlet Witch says ‘Chaos’ during her ultimate. Star-Lord will avoid the burst of the attack and receive no damage.
- Magneto – Take note that Magneto has to charge this ultimate, so the timing is different everytime it’s triggered. Dodge the moment Magneto’s orb has an exclamation point above it while it’s headed toward your direction.
- Iron Man – Iron Man’s attack is like Magneto’s but the timing is going to be different depending on his distance. It’s best to make sure to know where he is, and watch out for the exclamation point on the projectile he launches.
- Doctor Strange – There are two things players can watch out for to dodge this ultimate. If you can’t see him, just make sure to dodge when you hear the word ‘Eye’. If you can see him, dodge the moment he curls up into a ball right before he releases his attack.
- Jeff the Land Shark – Jeff is tricky since his ultimate’s timing can be changed based on the player, but there is an audio cue whenever he’s about to swallow everyone. Just watch out for three bell chimes; dodge by the sound of the third bell, and Star-Lord won’t be swallowed along with everyone.
- Black Panther – This is an ultimate that Star-Lord can face head on. The moment players hear the word ‘Tremble’, make a dodge straight toward the attack, and this will push right through the ultimate, saving Star-Lord from getting any damage.
The Legendary Star-Lord
Compared to a lot of heroes in the roster, Star-Lord’s kit is considered to be pretty barebones, but that’s also what makes him such an easy hero to master.
Besides dealing great damage, Star-Lord is incredibly mobile, so he’s most effective in the battlefield getting behind enemies and taking them out from that point. Since he’s also fast, that means he can get in and out of any situation before anyone can kill him off. He’s like Tracer, Soldier: 76, and Reaper mixed into one character.
If anything is tricky about him, it’s learning how to keep him attacking while he’s in motion. A couple of hours should get anyone accustomed to his kit.
Marvel Rivals is now playable for Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC.
