Hela is known as one of the most deadliest heroes in Marvel Rivals. By fundamentally being a Duelist in the game, the Asgardian focuses much of her abilities on depleting the health pool of her enemies. Since her addition to the Marvel Rivals’ roster, she’s been a fan favorite of numerous players.
Unfortunately, gamers who come up against her have to suffer. If you’ve had the misfortune of coming up against the Asgardian Goddess and are looking for ways to counter her abilities and offensive playstyle, here’s a guide on how to counter Hela in Marvel Rivals.
Countering Hela
Before moving onto the list of characters that can negate Hela’s abilities and attacks, it is vital first to understand how the character operates. This helps players understand how, without their abilities—purely based on game sense- they can counter the Asgardian Goddess.
First off, she has aerial abilities. So she can stay airborne. Secondly, she boasts an impeccable skill set of long-range offenses that deal significant damage. Lastly, being a Duelist, she has a low health pool.
By keeping these factors in mind, you’ll find that most Hela players would focus a lot on their positioning. Typically, they’ll be at the backline, dealing damage from a distance without taking any in return.
In such circumstances, players need to pick characters that pressurize and force the Asgardian Goddess to consistently position herself so she can not take a breather or focus much on her offensive strategies.
How to Counter Hela
Below, we’ve discussed some characters to help you achieve this objective.
1. The Punisher (Duelist)
The Asgardian Goddess likes to play at a distance. To match her offensive strategies, the Punisher is a solid pick from the list of counters in Marvel Rivals. The character’s relatively easier to play. Even if you’re new and going up against an intermediate-level Hela, you can deal significant damage if not elimination.
That’s not all. The character excels in medium- to long-range bouts, so players can ensure that Hela is pressurized and given a hard time. Additionally, players can even manage to block the Asgardian Goddess’ escape strategies due to his decent mobility.
Since the Punisher is a Duelist, he has a low HP. After the December update, the character’s health pool was reduced further—from 300 to 275 HP. In cases where Hela gets the upper hand on the Punisher during battle, players can use Scourge Grenade to temporarily block her line of sight, ensuring an efficient escape-and-regroup strategy.
2. Magneto (Vanguard)
As mentioned, Hela excels in long-range fights. Her kit is also designed to complement her style of play. In that case, heroes who manage to come up against her in close combat are most likely bound to succeed—provided they have appreciable health.
Magento is a perfect pick in this regard. Boasting a health pool of 650, this character is one of the strongest Vanguards in the game.
His health pool and abilities make him stand out against Hela. Let’s talk about his healing aspects first. Abilities like Metallic Curtain and Iron Bulwark allow Magneto to defend himself against incoming offenses. Additionally, he can do the same with his teammates through Metal Bulwark.
This allows Magneto and his team to take a breather while slowly marching forward. Once close enough, Magneto can use his offensive moves, such as the Mag Cannon and Iron Volley, to deal damage.
3. Venom (Vanguard)
Venom is another Vanguard that we recommend using. Since the Asgardian Goddess uses long-range attacks, she’s almost defenseless against counters done in a close-range setting. And due to his highly mobile web-slinging abilities, he can instantly match up to Hela’s position without her being able to retreat easily.
Additionally, Venom has a high health pool, so he can easily march forward while taking damage as a front-liner. His abilities (Cellular Corrosion) and his deadly fists further make the fight harder for Hela to retreat or win.
Finally, if Hela has to run away, she’d do so through her Astral Flock ability. In cases where the ability’s not on cooldown, players can expect to catch the Asgardian Goddess if she’s not too far. In cases where the cooldown is active, Hela has no option but to accept her deathly fate.
4. Luna Snow (Strategist)
Generally, characters with a low health pool and long-range damage output focus heavily on positioning. They must be wary of their health while living up to their role.
Players can opt for Luna Snow to counter her. With her ice-y abilities, Luna ensures that her enemies cannot freely maneuver across different areas of the map. Additionally, she’s a Strategist, so her playing style is mainly healing, ensuring that any player Hela tends to damage quickly regenerates health to counteract her offenses.
Additionally, she can also heal herself. In that case, any incoming damage from the Asgardian Goddess is somewhat neglected. Luna’s edge compared to other healers, though, is that she can play well as an offense. Using her primary attacks coupled with her abilities makes Hela prey to retreat.
