Out of all the duelists in Marvel Rivals, Spider-Man is arguably one of the most annoying characters in the game when put in the right hands. Despite having a low health bar and being affected by basic combos of enemy players, Spidey’s impeccable movement allows him to escape any situation just by swinging away.
For players experienced with Spider-Man, it can be the difference between a victory and a defeat. Unfortunately, there aren’t many potent counters against the swing-head either. To ensure you’re on the winning side, though, here are a few counters for Spider-Man in Marvel Rivals. Read on to learn more.
Countering Spider-Man
Players who’ve interacted with Spider-Man as an opponent know that the Web-Head’s greatest asset is his mobility. Despite having a low health bar comparatively, it’s much more unlikely to eliminate Spidey than some other Duelists due to his ability to swing away in seconds.
Because of this, your chosen hero should have a decent stun or abilities that stop Spidey in his tracks and prevent him from crawling away. While few characters may possess the skill set to tackle him, we have a few.
How to Counter Spider-Man?
Below, we’ve mentioned all the heroes who can effectively (to some point) counter the swinging menace.
1. Scarlet Witch (Duelist)
Scarlet Witch is arguably one of the most effective characters to counter Spider-Man in Marvel Rivals. She possesses most of the required traits that will help you counter Spidey.
Referred to as “auto-aim” in the game, players can rely on the character’s Chaos Control ability to damage Spidey. Fortunately, it doesn’t require precise aiming; even if you’ve aimed at a region close to the swinging menace, the damage still registers.
To deal extra damage, the duelist’s Chthonian Burst is a great add-on, firing missiles made with magic to put the swinger to sleep.
If somehow the Web-Head manages to jump on you, players can opt. For the Witch’s Orbs (they act as a stun if placed on oneself) or simply use Scarlet Witch’s Mystic Projection ability, allowing her to phase out of the ambush and retreat to nearby healers for health restoration.
2. Namor (Duelist)
Namor is another Duelist that players can use to counter the swinger. While it has its critiques when it comes to facing off against the Web-Head, one can’t argue its usage to keep him at bay with his abilities.
Specifically, the auto-lock turrets of the character, which fire away at any opponent that comes nearby. Understandably, the turrets may not be that efficient against Spider-Man because players who’ve mastered the crawler don’t tend to stay on the ground often for more than a second—and the turrets can’t lock on effectively against flyers.
But pair them with a character like Luna Snow, who can freeze Spidey for a brief few seconds, and you can expect significant damage to the crawler through melee attacks and the auto-turrets.
If he gets the jump on you, you can simply use one of your abilities, such as Namor, to protect yourself from Spidey’s incoming attacks. This can act as bait, buying your team and turrets enough time to trap the Web-Head and eliminate him for good.
3. Luna Snow (Strategist)
While a Strategist’s skillset is mainly tuned to support their teammates, it can become potent for some characters. Luna Snow is an excellent example here.
With her Absolute Zero Ice attack, Luna Snow can momentarily freeze the swinger in his place. This allows nearby teammates to gain a short window to deal significant damage to the character, either eliminating him or forcing him back to his spawn point. Either way, it can be the difference between your team’s victory or defeat.
It is vital to note here that Luna Snow’s Absolute Zero Ice Attack requires you to hit the Ice Ball directly at the Web-Head for it to be potent—timing is key here.
From an offensive aspect, Luna Snow has a slight advantage. Since the character can heal herself during battle, it can be significantly hard for the swinger to deal real damage to the character if he’s out of combos or abilities. Additionally, Luna’s Ice Arts Ability doesn’t necessarily require players to aim precisely at the swinger.
4. Peni Parker (Vanguard)
Since Peni Parker is a Vanguard, most of Spider-Man’s attacks won’t be potent enough due to the character’s health bar. While Peni can’t eliminate Spider-Man directly, she is an excellent match influencer when coupled with a Duelist.
Peni Parker's entrapment ability causes her webs to wrap around the character to capture them briefly—and deem them immobile. This ability is known as the Cyber-Web, and using it on Spider-Man is highly effective. Once captured, players can ping the Web-Head’s location for their duelists to deal extensive damage.
This would either eliminate Spider-Man or send him swinging back to his backline, both of which are excellent ways for your team to march forward and influence the battle in your favor.
