If you've been navigating the magical landscape of Marvel Rivals, there's a good chance you've found the quirky and heartwarming Easter egg—the ghostly dog known as Bats.
This ghostly sidekick of Doctor Strange isn’t just floating around for no reason.
He's tied to a special accomplishment that players unlock by completing a rather unexpected task: chatting with Bats.
It’s not the simplest to track down Bats, but his charm and the story that comes with him make it all worth it.
This guide will walk you through finding the enchanted pup, triggering an unexpected convo, and grabbing the A Hounding Conversation achievement.
How To Find & Talk To Bats The Ghost Dog
If you’re unfamiliar with Bats, here’s the scoop: he used to be Doctor Strange’s basset hound, and a spell from Strange made him able to speak.
Tragically, Bats didn’t make it after a run-in with Loki, but he returned as a ghost and stayed friends with Strange.
To encounter Bats, you must first enter the Doom Match mode.
The Sanctum Sanctorum map is in this mode, and it’s the only place you’ll bump into the ghostly dog.
The Doom Match mode is up for a limited time, so hop in while it’s active to increase your chances of finding Bats.
If you’re after a more laid-back time without player interference, you can hit up the map in Custom Game Mode.
You can roam around the Sanctum Sanctorum without worrying about any fights, so it’s a great chance to find and interact with Bats.
When in Doom Match mode, head to the Sanctum Sanctorum map.
This map contains mystical buildings and otherworldly portals, with bats flying around the Sanctum's foyer.
To get to him, go to the large room by the entrance, where you'll see the big staircase and the well-known portrait of Doctor Strange and his hound.
You’ll catch Bats floating or lounging in this area, and once you know where to look, it’s easy to spot him.
Bats doesn’t stay in one spot but tends to hover around the hallway by the staircase or under the portrait.
Bats can move around the entire main lobby, not just one corner of the map.
Most of the time, you’ll find him near the stairs or around furniture like sofas and lamp tables.
He might occasionally pause to lie down, but he usually floats around the room.
If you're not getting anywhere, respawn after you get taken down; you might end up closer to him. Now comes the tricky part—talking to Bats.
The conversation won’t start unless there’s an interaction button, and the dog doesn’t just communicate with anyone.
If you want him to open up, pick one of these four characters: Spider-Man, Squirrel Girl, Thor, or Jeff the Land Shark.
Only these specific characters can trigger a conversation with Bats if they get close.
Just stroll around the room with one of these characters, and soon enough, Bats will begin speaking. It might take a minute to start, so don’t worry.
Oddly enough, even though Doctor Strange would naturally engage with Bats, he doesn’t start a dialogue with the dog.
You'll unlock the A Hounding Conversation achievement when you trigger the conversation successfully.
The good news is that you don’t need to finish the match to earn the achievement.
Once the convo happens, you can dip from the match, and the achievement will still count.
When you exit the game, you'll get a heads-up about your achievement, and you can collect it from the Achievements section in the lobby.
