Since Magneto is a Vanguard, his main role is related to him being on the front lines of his team. With a wide range of abilities that range from a protective barrier to block incoming attacks to projectiles that can damage or throw off his enemies from their positioning, Magneto’s a package.
That being said, the hero does not have a highly mobile offensive mechanic with him, so it’s vital for players to know how his positioning works. Additionally, since he’s a Vanguard, knowing how to use him effectively will make a significant or arguably the biggest impact on your team. In that case, here’s how to play as Magneto in Marvel Rivals.

General Tips
After reading the intro, it’s fair to assume you have some knowledge about how the character primarily operates. In that case, here are some general tips before diving into battle-specific ones.
Firstly, it’s vital to stay on the front lines as Magneto. Primarily because his abilities include forming a protective barrier for your team that can block incoming offense. Additionally, Magneto has certain abilities which we’ll discuss below as well. For now, all you have to know is that they can throw off enemies, creating space for your tteammatesto shine oninhe battleground.
Lastly, abilities like Magnetic Descent allow Magneto to reposition instantly in cases where his current positioning is compromised and his health pool is in danger.
Finally, let’s dive into how to make an impact with Magneto in Marvel Rivals.
Using Magneto’s Range To Your Advantage
Magneto’s primarily a ranged character who deals damage at a range. Players have the option to not be in direct contact with the enemy but still make a difference for their team. In that case, knowing how to use his Iron Volley ability is crucial.
From the outset, the ability feels slow. The time it takes for the projectiles to hit may also feel sluggish, but don’t let it stop you from using this ability. Iron Volley is highly impactful due to its AoE, dealing heavy damage to the opposition and depleting their health pools quickly.
That being said, it’s advised to use the ability at a safe distance. Lastly, due to its explosive nature and the benefit of not having to precisely aim at the enemy, players can use it to damage multiple opponents at once, provided they’re nearby.
Using Magneto’s Metal and Iron Bulwark Smartly
There might be a game where you’ve seen Magneto bring about a purple bubble on himself or his teammates—this is his protective ability at play. Generally referred to as the Bubble in gaming lingo, these protective abilities are called Metal Bulwark and Iron Bulwark.
The former allows Magneto to place a protective bubble around his teammates while the latter allows him to place one around himself. Presently, the hero can damage the character present inside the Bubble, so it makes these abilities all the more helpful.
Additionally, the damage absorbed from these bubbles is used to charge Magneto’s Mag-Cannon. That being said, since most Marvel Rival players are from the Overwatch fanbase, you wouldn’t find them damaging the Metal or Iron Bulwark too often.
Since both these abilities have the same cooldown time with different input keys for activation, it is advised to use them strategically. During battle, Magneto should primarily focus on shielding his healers or tanks.
The Bubble has an animation delay, so even if you manage to activate it whilst the enemy is about to use their abilities, the damage might register if it manages to connect during the animation.
Mastering Magneto’s Ultimate, the Meteor M
Magneto’s Meteor M is a powerful ability, allowing him to absorb all projectiles within a 15-meter distance and explode them all at once after a certain time. Though being deadly, players can damage themselves if they end up absorbing too much projectile. In that case, it’s recommended to limit the damage you absorb—up to 800.
The most effective time to use it during battle would be when enemy players are held together nearby. Additionally, you can also use it as a last resort if your team’s getting too beat up, and you want to create much-needed ‘breathing room’ or space for them.
Magneto Best Team-Ups in Marvel Rivals

Like every Marvel character in the game, Magneto has certain allies with whom he can pair up to wreak more havoc than being solo. Here are some of them.
Scarlet Witch
Magneto’s biggest disadvantage is his speed—it’s slow. This is one of the main reasons why Scarlet Witch is considered to be the best pair-up for him, as her abilities allow Magneto’s melee damage to increase dramatically, whilst enhancing his attack speed as well. This makes him deadly even for flankers, who capitalize on damaging Magneto due to their high mobility.
Mantis
Mantis is another team-up for Magneto that works well. Apart from her healing abilities which help Magneto stay on the front line longer, Mantis can also halt enemy movements temporarily. This allows Magneto to deal more damage without repercussions. It also gives him the gap to reposition in case his options are limited on the battlefield.
