Another year, another season for many different esports. For many fighting game fans, the EVO Championships is where they pit the best of the best against each other and hail the ultimate champions in many different fighting game titles. Marvel vs Capcom fans are in a treat, as this year's EVO Championships will include the fan-favorite Marvel vs Capcom 2.

A leaked YouTube thumbnail post shared by @Knoebelbroet on X indicated that the eight titles in the 2025 EVO Championships will include Marvel vs. Capcom 2, among titles such as Tekken 8, Street Fighter 6, and Mortal Kombat 1.

The leaked photo also included the tournament dates, which will take place in Las Vegas from August 1 to 3, 2025.

Marvel vs Capcom 2 was recently relaunched last year via the Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics, which made the game available to modern gaming consoles. It included games such as X-Men: Children of the Atom and X-Men vs. Street Fighter.

Many fans have been waiting for the return of these classics to the current-gen consoles for so long that EVO Champion Justin Wong, also known as Wazzler, dominated almost every title on every platform that many players instantly quit when they match against him during ranked matches.

The EVO Championships are different, though. They will feature the best players from all over the world, and the competition will be much tougher than public-ranked matches.

Fans all over Reddit are also surprised to see Under Night In-Birth and Mortal Kombat 1 included in the list of games. On the other hand, Virtua Fighter fans are saddened that their favorite games won't be in EVO this year.

While esports is thriving more than ever thanks to major tournaments such as EVO Championships and Esports World Cup, not all fighting games titles will have the chance to be on the global stage.

Marvel vs. Capcom 2 has been iconic for many generations, and it automatically deserves to be in one of the greatest esports stages in the world.
