The release of the Marvel vs. Capcom collection this year has led some fans to believe that a new game announcement is on the horizon.

While it looks like Capcom isn’t planning much soon, some fans have revealed a new ‘labor of love’ mod that significantly improves Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite: Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite & Beyond.

Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite & Beyond

The mod can be installed on the Steam version of MVCI, but players must purchase the base version to play it.

The official description reads:

Marvel Vs. Capcom Infinite & Beyond is a large-scale fan mod that features all-new visuals, game modes, music, balance changes, and more. This is not an official work of Capcom or Marvel Games.”

The mod, developed over eight months, was said to have required the work of nearly 40 people. What’s great is that it is completely free. Players only need to purchase the base game.

What Features are in MVCIB?

The original MVCI roster had 30 characters, but Beyond promises to increase the number of playable characters to 36. The game also features new visual flourishes, such as a new art style, color palettes, and alternate costumes for specific heroes.

The developers have also updated some of the stages, with some reflecting locations from way before MVC entered its 3D era.

In addition to the cosmetics, the game has also been balanced for each character, and these were said to have been adjusted based on the devs’ internal community of MVC fans. The mod has also added a four-player tag team at the core of the MVC franchise.

Original Reception

Though Marvel vs. Capcom is a cult franchise online, many fans agree that the release of Infinite was kind of a dud when it launched in 2017. The game got a lot of praise for its new mechanic of having players pick Infinity Stones to help them fight, but there wasn’t much to be said regarding its new graphical style, which was considered dull by several critics.

The new game’s roster was considerably smaller than its predecessor, and many of the characters were just reworked from the original title.

With an active community behind it, a mod for MVCI does seem like a great idea for the game. After so much hype with the release of the recent collection, many fans have been discussing Capcom eventually releasing the next mainline entry. After all, it’s been 7 years since the release of the last game.

It’s unclear if Capcom is planning something, but with this mod, fans have a good idea of the game's popularity. Hopefully, this will also entice others to try the game for the first time.
