Hideo Kojima may no longer work with Konami, but that doesn’t mean they can’t milk the Metal Gear Solid series for its worth.
The company is currently focused on releasing its remake of MGS3, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. A new behind-the-scenes featurette has revealed one huge mystery about the franchise—who voices Eva?
The Real Identity of Eva's Voice Actress
When it came to the original Metal Gear Solid 3, the voice of Eva was credited to Suzetta Minet, who wasn’t actually a real person. Thanks to this new look at the upcoming remake, it’s been revealed that ‘Suzetta’ was actually a pseudonym for Little Mermaid voice actress Jodi Benson.
Here’s the reveal:
As it turns out, Benson had requested that they use an alternate name for her since she had been attached to several kid-friendly projects while working on Metal Gear in the early 2000s. She said, “The various projects I am associated with in my career, they’re sort of family-based, children-based, things like that, so it was actually [English voice director] Kris Zimmerman Salter that sat me down and said, ‘Maybe we need to change your name.’”, They came up with the name “Suzetta Minet” by scrambling up the name of Benson’s childhood dog “Suzette Monet.”
For context, Ava is an ally of Naked Snake, who was introduced in Metal Gear Solid 3, and she returned for the sequel Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.
Fans have been on the Search
When MGS3 was originally released, it became obvious to some fans that Suzetta Minet wasn’t actually a real person. There’s been a rumbling in the fanbase about who could have been voicing Eva this whole time.
Though Benson made the reveal public now, she has confirmed that some fans have approached her and know that she was the voice of Eva in Metal Gear Solid 3 the whole time. She says in the featurette, “Seven years ago at various conventions where we meet and greet with wonderful fans; somebody slipped one of these wonderful games to my table. And I said, ‘Why are you bringing me that?’ he says, ‘Because you’re in it,’ and I said, ‘Do you know? Do you know my deep, dark secret?... Shhh! Keep it quiet!’”
Benson and the Remake
For now, bits and pieces are being shared about the remake, and it’s been said that the game will reuse most of the voice assets from the original game. However, it’s also been confirmed that Benson, alongside other actors from the series like David Hayter, has recorded some additional dialogue for Snake Eater.
Metal Gear Solid Delta is still expected to come out this year, but seeing that it’s already November, some fans are almost sure the game has been delayed. If anything, early reviews for the game have talked about how great the remake is and how they can’t wait to try out the completed game once it’s officially released.
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is expected to release for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC sometime this year.
