Miles Morales bonus suit puts players in the ‘Spider-Verse’

Into the Spider-Verse is one of the most beautiful animated films ever made; the Spider-Man IP will never be the same because of it.

Insomniac’s 2018 Spidey game featured an attractive Spider-Verse tie-in suit based on the Chris Pine iteration of the character. But this year’s Miles Morales takes the fan service to another level.

Lovingly animated to resemble the suit worn by Miles in Into the Spider-Verse, the second pre-order bonus for Spider-Man: Miles Morales is a sight to behold.

Into the Spider-Verse suit revealed

“We announced one of the coolest suits in our game today, and while, yes, it’s just plain awesome, I think it also illustrates how amazing things can happen when different people in departments across a studio can combine their talents,” Mike Fitzgerald, core tech designer at Insomniac, said in a Twitter thread.

“You’ve of course got the character-art team doing absolutely phenomenal modeling and texture work, the animation department perfectly communicating who this character is by how he moves, and J. Tuason on the tech-art team turning out another stunning custom suit-shader solution,” Fitzgerald writes.

“For the ‘animate-on-twos’ style, you have brainstorm ideas getting prototyped by Jonathan Garrett, then his core-animation team getting the feature polished — figuring out the memory requirements of deferred skeleton updates, ensuring it melds correctly with the animation system, etc.”

The result’s pretty astonishing; it really does look like the film.

Players who pre-order Spider-Man: Miles Morales on PS4 or PS5 will get immediate access to the Spider-Verse suit, as well as a new white-and-black suit original to the game, when the game launches.

It’s scheduled to release November 12, exclusively on PlayStation.
