Sony’s recent State of Play showed plenty of new games and IP, with MindsEye quickly becoming a talking point. After the company spent millions on trying to revive live service, seeing Sony focus on another single-player adventure is pretty refreshing. Only time will tell if this game will become another PlayStation hit.

More details about the game were shown off in Sony’s PlayStation Blog, revealing that the developers at Build A Rocket Boy are working on the title alongside IO Interactive. The devs previously worked on Everywhere, a game built on community and online multiplayer, so this is a big change of pace for them. Fans are pretty intrigued by what they’ve seen, so this could make the studio.

What makes MindsEye an intriguing game is that it has a pretty interesting conspiracy theory plot that has people talking. Playing as Jacob Diaz, gamers are trying to discover the truth behind his path and discover the mysteries of his neural implant called, well, MindsEye. As the game gets going, players will meet new characters who have their own agenda, much like other conspiracy thrillers.

Luckily, this isn’t too grounded in reality, as the game is set in the near future. This means players can expect to fight a bunch of mechs that will give Diaz a rough time in combat. It seems that developer Build A Rocket Boy is taking advantage of this setting, promising cool encounters on foot, in vehicles, and even in the air.

Knowing how Sony games go, the gameplay for MindsEye will be fine-tuned, albeit, not very original. Still, if the game plays well and can make narrative-driven shooters feel good again, players won’t mind at all. Fans love the Uncharted and Last of Us video games, which don’t exactly break the gameplay mold.
