In this guide, find all there is to know about the Minecraft 1.21 update including its estimated release date and a closer look at what Mojang plans on adding.

Minecraft 1.21 release date estimate

The Minecraft 1.21 update is expected to arrive in the middle of 2024. Mojang hasn't confirmed an exact release date yet but thanks to the release pattern of previous updates, the middle of the year is a possibility.

The 1.20 and 1.19 both launched in June so there's a high chance of the 1.21 update following the same trend. Once the release date is confirmed, we'll update the guide with the latest information.

Minecraft 1.21 update blocks

The 1.21 update will feature three new blocks that are bound to prove popular for those looking to create all kinds of structures:

  • Trial spawner - Enemy spawner that rewards loot
  • Crafter - Automated redstone-powered crafting station
  • Copper bulb - Light source featuring copper trim

Minecraft 1.21 update mobs

The Breeze and the Armadillo are the brand-new mobs arriving in the 1.21 update. Here's a closer look at their characteristics.

The Breeze

The Breeze is blue and purple with arms and a head engulfed in swirling wind. When attacking, it launches wind energy that explodes if it hits a player, dealing small amounts of damage and knocking them backwards.

It moves around biomes by jumping which should make it easier to defeat them inside the trial chambers.

Armadillo

The Armadillo will feature in warmer biomes such as the Savannah. They'll drop their armoured skin which you can craft into wolf armour in addition to Scute. You can check out a closer look at the Armadillo in the short reveal video below:

What is the Minecraft Trial Chamber?

New in 1.21 is the Trial Chamber, a new underground structure designed to challenge even the most seasoned explorers. They'll contain a Trial Spawner which dishes out loot once a challenge has been completed.

Minecraft 1.21 update new biome

There are no signs of a new biome arriving in the 1.21 update but that's not to say Mojang won't have a few surprises up its sleeve. Recent updates have included the arrival of cherry blossom forests and mangrove swamps.

If there are signs of a new biome, we'll be sure to share the information as soon as it appears.
