Minecraft fans who prefer to play the game using VR headsets are now stuck using monitors instead, according to Mojang's latest announcement. As stated in Mojang's latest Bedrock changelog, Minecraft will no longer officially support VR devices on PC by March 2025.
The company also announced last month that it will drop support for PSVR, leaving VR players looking for other solutions to play Minecraft in VR.
Minecraft players first experienced the game in VR when Mojang released support for Oculus Rift in 2016. Support for Windows VR headsets followed the same year, and Mojang eventually adopted OpenXR, which now lets SteamVR players immerse themselves in VR Minecraft.

Official VR support for Minecraft has allowed players to crossplay between other Bedrock versions, such as the ones in Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, and mobile devices. Being able to play in VR while your friend plays on their phone or console is a great way to encourage multiplayer in Minecraft. Sadly, many VR enthusiasts who love the game will be stuck playing Minecraft on non-VR devices.
Players have expressed their disappointment in a Reddit thread about VR, while some offered alternatives that many Minecraft VR fans can use. Other tools, such as Vivecraft for PC VR and QuestCraft for Meta Quest, are available for players who own these devices. While these tools let players play Minecraft in VR, these are third-party mods that may not be able to provide all the VR capabilities that Mojang offers when using OpenXR.
Mojang recently released the latest 1.21.40 Bedrock update for Minecraft, which adds bundles that will let players easily manage their clutter and a brand new Hardcore mode for the Bedrock Edition. The Hardcore mode will have permadeath and will only let players spectate once they die, like ghosts of their own world. It sounds like Minecraft is taking a different approach this Halloween.
