Modern Warfare 2 Special Ops returns in Infinity Ward's sequel to 2019's Modern Warfare. The mode first appeared in 2009's Modern Warfare 2 offering players a chance to join forces and play through a range of unique co-op missions. Instead of featuring zombies, 2022's Modern Warfare 2 will see Special Ops back in action.
Alongside multiplayer and Raids, Special Ops offers another way to enjoy Call of Duty and just like its predecessor, players are expecting a range of action-packed missions packed with vehicular warfare and on-the-ground combat.

Modern Warfare 2 Special Ops mission list
Bad Situation
This particular mission involves plenty of stealth. Drop into a town under the cover of darkness to gather intel left by Al Qatala before exfiltrating without alerting anyone to your position.
Vehicle Escape
Instead of stealth, players drive along attempting to destroy SAM turrets blocking friendly reinforcements. Coordination is the key to achieving all three stars.
Observatory Defense
Defend an observatory from waves of opponents that increase in difficulty. Stop them from detonating bombs dotted around the area. Between waves, you can spend cash on killstreaks, revive kits, and more.
High Ground
High Ground is the fourth Special Ops mission and is arriving as part of the Modern Warfare 2 Season One update. This mission sees players attempting to destroy enemy communications servers and extracting hard drives containing enemy intel. One player takes control of a helicopter while the foot soldier works with a group of AI allies to breach the buildings.
Modern Warfare 2 Special Ops kits
During Special Ops missions, players have access to a backpack where they can store various pieces of equipment and one of three kits that act similar to a multiplayer loadout: Here are the three available kits to use:
- Medic: Increased revive speed with Stim Pistol field upgrade and a bomb drone for additional damage. Includes free Claymores, anti-tank mines and movement speed boosts similar to the Double Time perk.
- Assault: Focused on providing additional protection with Armor Box field upgrade. Other benefits include faster item usage, more armour capacity, and free Stims to instantly regenerate health.
- Engineer: Improves equipment usage with Snapshot Pulse field upgrade to highlight nearby opponents. Ability to automatically restock lethal and tactical equipment and carry extra equipment including a heartbeat sensor and spotter scope.
Is Special Ops good in Modern Warfare 2?
Special Ops is a great alternative to multiplayer in Modern Warfare 2. The different objectives guarantee a different experience in each of the three missions and with kit progression carrying over to DMZ which launches this year, it's definitely worth playing and earning three stars.
