Modern Warfare 3 Operation 627 mission walkthrough
Set in the Verdansk gulag, Operation 627 sees an elite group of soldiers looking to execute a prisoner escape. There are plenty of armed soldiers in the way, so knowing how to deal with them is key to completing the level in one piece.
Locate prisoner 627
The mission begins with an elite group of soldiers preparing to enter a prison. Swim straight ahead and climb the small ledge. Then, fire the zipline into the air to ascend the prison wall.
Climb into the tower after a squadmate has taken care of an unsuspecting soldier and follow the walkway into the dark room. This particular room is extremely dark, so don't forget to equip your night-vision goggles. Make your way out of the room, and you'll find two soldiers manning the spotlight. Take them out to allow another group of squadmates to land ahead.
A breached hole is now in front of you. Make your way down past the scaffolding, where you'll find a door to get inside the prison.
The squadmates will open the door. Follow them down the staircase to an archway that reveals a helicopter taking off from a helipad surrounded by soldiers. Wait for the signal, then open fire on anyone attempting to stand in your way.
Once the area is clear, open the hatch and start moving through the air vent. Eventually, you'll come to a sealed door. Open it to reveal the prison control room and numerous enemies patrolling the corridors. Prepare the zipline and wait for the blackout to begin the descent.
Under the cover of darkness, eliminate the guards. This is tricky to do as some of the prisoners will stand in your line of sight. If you shoot an inmate, you'll be reset to the previous checkpoint.
After clearing each floor, make your way through the ground level of the prison. Keep following the corridor and make your way towards the locked door. Breach it to reveal the high-value target. It'll soon become clear that you weren't rescuing one of the good guys.
Escape with Makarov
With Makarov secure and the entire prison looking to stop your escape, the next part of the mission can prove tricky, especially on Veteran difficulty. Follow Makarov through the doorway, where he'll handily dispatch a few soldiers that prove little resistance even on the highest difficulty.
Enter the armoury where you can get your hands on a range of different guns and weapons ranging from the Lockwood 680 shotgun to a fully-equipped KV Inhibitor sniper rifle. Breach the locker room and clear out any guards. Next, make your way through the room and into an elevator. Makarov will then ask you a multiple-choice question with the following options:
- The guards
- The prisoners
- Neither
To play it safe, pick the prisoners as your answer, then exit the elevator shaft.
You'll be greeted with a chaotic scene of armed prisoners attempting to eliminate the remaining guards unleashing machine gun fire onto your location. Remain hidden until air support dispatches of the turrets, preventing the escape.
With the tower now out of action, keep moving through the courtyard and head through the archway. As you reach the other side, a helicopter will prevent a straightforward exit. Head towards the right and through the door to safety.
With an airborne escape out of the question, continue sprinting and slide down the wet rocks before leaping into the sea. Makarov will help you aboard the boat.
