Modern Warfare 3 fans have harrassed Sledgehammer Games surrounding the often divisive topic of SBMM.
SBMM (skill-based matchmaking) in Modern Warfare 3 aims to provide players with consistently competitive matches across all of the available game modes but with Season 1 on the horizon, frustrations are continuing to grow.
To provide players with a chance to share their thoughts, Sledgehammer Games hosted a Q&A session on Reddit. While there were plenty of questions surrounding various aspects of multiplayer, the topic of SBMM continued to appear as fans attempted to gain clarity surrounding Call of Duty's matchmaking system.
Shortly after the session concluded, user LossAndSeparation took to Reddit frustrated with the lack of clarity provided by the developer.
The player says: "We're Sledgehammer, ask us anything except for the one question everyone has. We're going to deliberately ignore that question." In addition to the original post, there are plenty of other frustrated fans after the developers failed to mention SBMM. Another adds: "I've never seen the community so angry over SBMM as I have this year."
Instead of attacking Sledgehammer Games, others believe the SBMM isn't the fault of the developer. One player believes: "The individual studios have zero say in the matchmaking system over the past four years and [the developers] seem to have some sort of gag applied. Not really fair to go after Sledgehammer for that.
If Sledgehammer Games isn't to blame for the high levels of SBMM in Modern Warfare 3, it appears Activision is the main culprit. With the developer unable to reduce SBMM to more casual levels, there's a high chance that matches will remain competitive for the foreseeable future.
Thankfully, Ranked play is launching soon which will see more competitive players move away from the public playlists. For now, be prepared for some sweaty matches if you manage to top the scoreboard on a regular basis.
