When will Ranked Play arrive in Modern Warfare? That's the question that so many Call of Duty fans have been asking since launch.
The unfortunate news was broken to us before the 25th October release date that it may not be in at launch.
So where are we at now? It's February and there has been no update - here's the latest info.
The Latest News
We're almost 4 months into the game and we've still not seen ranked play added to the game.
Infinity Ward's Art Director said "Sorry. I don't have details on that".
What Is Ranked Play?
Ranked Play is a public opportunity for players to experience and immerse themselves in a competitive match.
Usually, the games closely reflect the rules and format of the Call of Duty esports scene (this year being the Call of Duty League).
For ease of use, stats and placing are tracked within the game and you do not need a team to participate.
When Will Ranked Play Release?
The simple answer is that we don't know - there is no official release date. At this point in time, we're not even sure it will arrive.
Much like the rumoured Battle Royale, plenty are speculating that it could arrive in Season 2.
Similarly, both have had no official word about a release.
The only thing we've told is that Ranked Play may not be included at launch.
Ruleset, Format And Game Modes
It's likely that Ranked Play will include an almost identical ruleset to the CDL.
The three-game modes will be:
- Hardpoint
- Search & Destroy
- Domination
As far as the ruleset is concerned, you can find a copy of it here.
How the structure of League Play will rank players is also unknown. Last year's format was poorly received.
It is likely matchmaking will be done on a skill-based system to allow for the most competitive experience.
