Infinity Ward has stealthily removed the OK gesture from Modern Warfare and Warzone, with little explanation why.
While many may have not noticed, since the mid-season 4 update, some are mourning the loss of their favourite in-game emote.
So why was it removed?
Why Was The OK Gesture Removed From Modern Warfare And Warzone?
Many know the 'OK' symbol to be a way of communicating - if you have ever been scuba diving, it's a common way of communicating with other divers to let them know that you are fine.
In Modern Warfare, it was a way to taunt your enemies in the final killcam. But, believe it or not, the symbol has recently been adopted as a hate symbol.
In September 2019, the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) added the OK sign to its list of hate symbols, due to it being used by some as a "sincere expression of white supremacy".
They attribute this significance to a hoax by members of the website 4chan, in which they tried to promote the gesture as a hate symbol, claiming that it represented the letter "wp" for "white power".
Reportedly, the hoax was so successful that the symbol became a popular trolling tactic on the part of the right-leaning individuals, who would often post photos to social media of themselves posing while making the "okay" gesture".
While the almost ancient gesture is still seen to many as a way to signify your own well being, to some it now has an alternative meaning.
Given the recent issues in the world regarding racism, it looks like Infinity Ward has acted to the potential issue.
Now the symbol has been replaced with the "crush" gesture.
