The Monster Hunter: Wilds Open Beta is currently out for PlayStation Plus subscribers, and everyone is having the time of their lives enjoying the vast expanse of the Windward Plains.

From our first Chatacabra hunt to the indomitable Rey Dau quest, the Open Beta gave players a taste of what’s to come for CAPCOM’s highly-anticipated sequel to their best-selling action RPG.

Throughout our monster-hunting journey in the beta, we picked up a few important gameplay changes that will benefit us greatly. One of which was being able to eat on the fly and the freedom to finally place camps.

Here’s how to set up a pop-up camp in Monster Hunter: Wilds:

Step 1: Get Used to the Controls First

New Monster Hunter games mean new mechanics are introduced. Which is why it pays to recognize which button does which. The new Focus mechanic is a helpful addition to Monster Hunter’s detailed combat.

Apart from that, the Radial Menu and the Item Bar remain the same, but it does come with a few visual tweaks to spice things up.

Step 2: Finish the Doshaguma Hunt

Unlocking the Pop-up Camp is easy. After your first Doshaguma hunt, a tutorial pop-up will appear, and you begin to notice a green circular aura a few meters from the Doshaguma’s body.

Simply scroll through your item bar and select the Pop-Up Camp icon to instantly create your makeshift sanctuary. It costs 200 Guild Points to make one, but it shouldn’t worry you too much since GPs aren’t hard to come by.

Step 3: Step Inside!

Once everything is all set up, you can get inside and do whatever you want. Monster Hunter's camps are helpful locations where you can restock and change your gear. Although they’re fixed to specific locations, these are incredibly useful when going for a long hunt.

Keep in mind that these temporary save havens can get wrecked by nearby monsters. So, you should watch your notifications tab on the right side of your screen. An alert will pop up if a monster has destroyed your precious home. If there isn’t, then you can fast-travel your way across these portable camps on the fly.

There’s more than just one pop-up camp location in the Windward Plains, so you should check your map to see where the others are. You can tell them by their icon, a ‘Signpost.’
