Is Mortal Kombat 1 crossplay?
Sadly, Mortal Kombat 1 will not support crossplay at launch. It's to be expected, however, that crossplay may arrive later on post-launch, just like the previous game.
Back in Mortal Kombat 11, the game offered crossplay, but this was only added three years after it launched. This was available only for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One console players. Since Mortal Kombat 1 isn't coming to previous-gen consoles, it'll likely only support crossplay between Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
In a series of screenshots posted by renowned Twitter leaker Wario64, the Mortal Kombat 1 FAQs mentioned that Mortal Kombat 1 will have crossplay or cross-progression support post-launch.
Later on, however, the game's FAQ page was updated, and had since removed that particular mention of crossplay in the game. So, right now, we aren't too sure if NetherRealm Studios will be pushing for crossplay for the game anytime soon.
Why is crossplay important for Mortal Kombat 1?
For most fighting games, the ability to play against your friends certainly makes the experience more fun. Players across the world play games on various platforms and having crossplay can make it easier for players to connect with each other to play games. While it's difficult to develop a crossplay feature for games, it's certainly worth it for the experience, especially for Mortal Kombat 1.
That's it for our look at crossplay in Mortal Kombat 1. While it's looking negative so far, this feature could well arrive in the future. For even more on the game, check out how to change the announcer voice, plus a guide on whether you can turn off blood and gore.
