Hey there, Planeswalkers! If you're a fan of Magic: The Gathering and the iconic British series Doctor Who, you're in for a treat. Wizards of the Coast has just unveiled their latest crossover, and it's bigger on the inside. Let's dive into the details!
Release date - When can we start time travelling?
The much-anticipated MTG Doctor Who set is set to hit shelves on October 13, 2023. So, mark your calendars and maybe even pre-order from your favourite retailers like Amazon to ensure you get your hands on this exciting set.
Spoilers - New mechanics and themes
- Doctor's Companion: This is a fresh mechanic introduced in the set. However, there's a catch! It only kicks in if your chosen Commander is a Time Lord Doctor. So, choose wisely!
- Paradox: This new ability word is all about casting spells from unexpected places. Specifically, it activates when you cast a spell from anywhere other than your hand. Think of it like using a Flashback effect but with a twist.
- Sagas: The set will heavily feature Sagas, with each of the 15 Doctors having their own associated Saga. And if that wasn't enough, four Villain cards will also come with their own Sagas.
- Villainous Choice: Villainous Choice is a new mechanic in the Masters of Evil Commander deck. This insidious mechanic forces opponents to choose between two terrible choices. Regardless of what they desire, you will be the one to benefit.
- Historic: Centric to the Blast from the Past Commander deck, Historic refers to a group of permanent types. These include Sagas, Legendary cards, and Artifacts.
While these are all the core mechanics appearing in Magic's latest Universes Beyond crossover, a lot more are appearing in the set, like Soulbond and Investigate.
