With information on the campaign and all-new AI out in the open, the possibility of Infinity Ward applying a wealth of new innovations to Call of Duty multiplayer is high.
Before we take a look at what we know about Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer, check out our pre-order guide and whether the game will feature on Game Pass.
Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer maps
So far, we know Modern Warfare 2 maps will split into two categories. Smaller maps designed for 6v6 action are known as Core Maps while larger maps perfect for Ground War are called Battle Maps. Here's a list of confirmed maps:
Core maps
- Grand Prix
- Museum
- Farm 18 Training Facility
- Oilfield
- Highrise?
There's a question mark next to Highrise as eagle-eyed fans managed to spot it within the worldwide reveal trailer. It's unclear if Infinity Ward plans on bringing the classic map to Modern Warfare 2 once again.
Battle maps
- Sariff Bay
- Sa'id
- Hydro
- Fishtown
- Sira
Described as large maps, these maps are likely to feature in Ground War. Infinity Ward says Battle Maps will share points of interest with the new Warzone 2 map launching in 2022.
Modern Warfare 2 guns
As of writing (September 5, 2022), Infinity Ward hasn't shared any information on the Modern Warfare 2 weapon arsenal. However, notable leaker 'TheGhostOfHope' has leaked some of the guns expected to appear.
In addition, further leaks have revealed the Modern Warfare 2 gun list which features plenty of new and returning weaponry.
Once the multiplayer beta takes place, we will have a better idea of what's included in the arsenal so be sure to check back regularly for all the latest intel.
Modern Warfare 2 game modes
Shortly after the worldwide reveal, information on two brand-new game modes were unveiled. Known as Knockout and Prisoner Rescue. Here's what we know so far.
Prisoner rescue
This particular mode is familiar to Rainbow Six fans. Players are split into attacking and defending teams, similar to Control and Search and Destroy.
Attackers must rescue a number of hostages from a building while the defenders attempt to protect them from the incoming threats. Similar to Siege, players can breach doors and walls to make their way through the building.
In addition to the new modes, leaks have found an extensive list of Modern Warfare 2 game modes that includes plenty of fan favourites.
Is slide cancelling in Modern Warfare 2?
It's unclear if slide cancelling does feature within Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer.
We do know sliding is included alongside a wealth of brand-new movement mechanics that include the return of dolphin diving, swimming, and a new mechanic that allows players to hang from ledges.
Modern Warfare 2 gunsmith
The Gunsmith returns in Modern Warfare 2 along with some new innovations that allow even deeper levels of customisation.
Attachment Tuning enables players to adjust attachments to suit their style of play. For example, if a barrel increases damage output and increases recoil, you can fine-tune the increases to find a balance.
Infinity Ward says a broader range of attachments will feature for the entire weapon arsenal but it's unclear as to the exact number. Once we hear more, we will share the intel.
