Breakdown

  • The MultiVersus Joker trailer has teased The Powerpuff Girls appearing in the game
  • Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup seem to be in their reboot attires, though the game will likely give them their original outfits as bonuses
  • It will be interesting to see how they play, with fans wondering if they're one unit or are alternate skins for each other

MultiVersus introduced iconic Batman villain The Joker in its most recent trailer, but some eagle-eyed fans noticed a tease for another set of iconic characters. It’s brief, but once fans saw these characters they were incredibly excited for their eventual appearance in this platform fighter.

At the start of this trailer, we see Joker hacking Batman’s computer and doing all sorts of online pranks to humiliate his arch nemesis. However, as the computer starts to go haywire, fans were able to spot The Powerpuff Girls from Cartoon Network, before the video transitions to gameplay.

Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup in MultiVersus would make a ton of sense since Warner Bros. does own Cartoon Network. Since these three heroes have a similar moveset, fans are wondering if they will be separate characters or fight as one unit. The developers programmed Tom and Jerry as one fighting unit, which fans showed plenty of appreciation for.

It’s worth noting that the Powerpuff Girls are briefly seen in their reboot form, which longtime fans of the show might find a bit annoying. However, the fighter does offer numerous costumes for these beloved characters, so we wouldn’t be surprised if their classic looks were added later. Fans would also enjoy seeing The Rowdyruff Boys as alternate skins for these heroes, complete with new actors voicing these variants.

Joker has already benefited from these MultiVersus costumes, as the character has a great Batman Who Laughs costume in the game. Harley Quinn also has her old psychiatrist outfit, so fans who want to reunite the problematic couple can now do so. Characters like Bugs Bunny also received some new costumes during the game’s odd beta phase, so it’s not just DC fans who benefit from this.

Overall, it looks like MultiVersus fans will be enjoying what Warner Bros. will be trotting out for Season 1, assuming everything is handled correctly. The company is doubling down on live-service games and this platform fighter is their safest bet yet to make this service work.

MultiVersus comes out on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series on May 28.
