The Nintendo Switch is officially in its twilight years, with a successor getting an official announcement later this fiscal year. Despite a new system coming soon, Nintendo insists on releasing a new accessory that fans will appreciate, even if it should have come out at the console’s launch.

For some reason, Nintendo has announced an official Joy-Con charging stand after all these years, somehow losing this race to other accessory manufacturers. Even if it feels too late for the system’s life cycle, Nintendo hopes to squeeze more money from fans with this item.

Admittedly, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen a Nintendo Switch-related announcement feel too late for the system’s life cycle. When Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom was announced, Nintendo unveiled a new version of the Switch Lite, bearing the Tri-Force and a striking gold color.

It will be interesting to see if this Joy-Con charging stand can be used on the upcoming successor, something many fans are hoping for. Making the charging stand work for the new system’s Joy-Cons can mean that this new console will also be backward-compatible with plenty of accessories.

Various rumors have said plenty of things about the Switch 2, from the system playing AAA games like Final Fantasy 7 Remake to it being backward-compatible with Switch games. None of this has been confirmed by the folks at Nintendo, but there is hope for some of these rumors to be true.

Even if this Joy-Con charging stand doesn’t work on the new system’s controllers, this is still useful for those who’ve purchased multiple Joy-Cons. Fans purchased a ton of these for many reasons, from analog drift to multiplayer purposes, so this isn’t the worst idea.

At the time of writing, the Nintendo Switch Joy-Con charging stand will be available on October 17. This accessory might be too late for some, but we’re sure other players will enjoy having this around.
