While other games and developers are having a bizarre year for gaming in 2024, Nintendo casually walks in and drops the mic with their huge announcement for longtime RPG and Wii U fans. Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition is coming to the Nintendo Switch this March 20, 2025, sending fans into an excited frenzy.
Xenoblade Chronicles X is a huge RPG title on the Wii U, and many fans have waited so long for it to be ported to the current-gen Nintendo console since its launch in 2017. While unconnected to the rest of the mainline Xenoblade titles in terms of its story, Xenoblade Chronicles X has the same world and character designs that many people loved about the franchise.

Finally, after almost 10 years since its release, Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition will be ported to the more powerful Nintendo Switch. This title alone makes me hope for a backward compatibility feature for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 console. Imagine having the best Wii U open-world RPG in the all-new and stunning next-gen hardware on the go. Gaming in its purest form, if I may say. Check out the latest trailer below.
Our senior editor, Alister Kennedy, shared how iconic the video game was during its time and mentioned that he "played 30 hours of Xenoblade Chronicles X back on Wii U and barely scratched the surface, this game will finally get a chance to shine during the final days of the Switch” which is reminiscent of how Xenoblade Chronicles X was released during the last days if the Wii U as well. Nintendo knows how to make history, and boy they do know how to make history good.
Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition will bring back its interesting cast of characters, fascinating combat, and the ever-amazing mechs that also made the game popular. If you are a fan of interesting RPG narratives and amazing side-quests in JRPGs, then you will have a great time with Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definite Edition coming this 2025.
