As fans everywhere wait for the supposed Switch 2 announcement trailer, Nintendo has decided to respond with…NSO icons for Donkey Kong Country Returns HD. On paper, this makes sense since the company always releases icons for its online service when a new or remastered title comes out. However, the anticipation for a new console reveal is annoying many fans.
Gaming insiders like Nate the Hate and Jeff Grubb claim the new console will soon be revealed. Even major outlets like Eurogamer claim we will get Nintendo hardware news soon. While the day isn’t over yet, the lack of news regarding the system is irritating many online fans.
Knowing how Nintendo works, we could see a Switch 2 announcement happen in the next few days instead of today. The company usually likes to space out major reveals. If the new console is revealed around the release of Country Returns HD, customers might ignore the game.
In Nintendo’s defense, Donkey Kong Country Returns HD just came out, and fans have been excited for this port of the Wii classic. Based on the footage and reviews online, this will be the definitive version of this 2.5D platformer.
This is a great example of a port done right. It improves the Wii version's already good visuals while keeping all the QOL improvements from the 3DS re-release.
Only time will tell if the Switch 2 will be announced this week or in the next few months, though we should expect it this year. Nintendo officially confirmed that the new console will be released this fiscal year, so that’s a good amount of time. Rumors have claimed that Square Enix and Atlus will be major supporters of this system, getting fans everywhere excited.
Donkey Kong Country Returns HD is now available on Nintendo Switch. Fans with NSO can pick up these DK icons if they have enough points.
Nintendo has not yet confirmed whether the new Donkey Kong Returns HD icons will be compatible with the Switch 2. We will update this article as more information becomes available.
